“Smells good,” He remarks as he re-enters the room, still wearing those worn jeans that sit nice and low on his hips, the shirt he slept in last night is now missing. His body is perfection; all sculpted curves and hard lines. I want to lick every inch of his skin, especially that deep V between his hips that tempts me in all sorts of wicked ways.

I walk directly to him, sliding my palms over his chest while I nuzzle into my favorite spot in his neck and take a deep breath. “So do you.”

His hand instantly comes up to grasp my chin, his mouth slamming down on mine in a kiss that’s equally brutal and tantalizing. I taste mint from the toothpaste and something solelyhimas our tongues play together. Taking two steps forward, he backs me into a corner and presses his body to mine. He does that often, I notice, and it is sexy as hell. In this moment I feel everything we’ve been denying one another for weeks now, and I fear my patience is fading. I need him…in any way he’s willing to give me…and I need him now.

He kisses a path over my jawline and up to my ear, one hand sliding around to palm my ass. His other hand drifts between our bodies, where he boldly grips my cock, groaning loudly. “Merrick…I need…fuck. I want….”

The ringing of the doorbell startles us apart and while he’s cursing under his breath I can only laugh. There’s nothing comical about how hard we are for one another, but it feels like this is just par for the course with he and I.We’ll get there, I tell myself as I walk slowly toward the front door. We’ll get there.

I spend a few moments willing my body under control then undo the locks and pull the door open. Aiden is standing there, a shovel in one hand, energy drink in the other. “Hey. Good morning. I wanted to drop this by before it got lost in the hellhole that is my garage.” Handing me the tool, he strides past me and heads inside. “I promised Chloe I’d pick up bagels. You know how she is when she doesn’t get her daily bagel.” He stops walking the moment he sees Davis standing in my kitchen, half dressed and pink cheeked. “Oh…hey, Davis. Good to see you. How’s it going?”

“Um…yeah…good to see you too. It’s fine. Everything is fine. Um… I’m fine, I mean.”

He’s goddamn adorable when he’s embarrassed and stumbling his way through something. Had Aiden not been standing right next to me, I might take him back to my bedroom and finish what we started.

Aiden’s eyes shift my direction, narrowing with concern before he turns back to Davis. “Good to hear. Sorry to interrupt. I was on my way to get Chloe her bagel fix and I thought I’d drop this off.” He points to the shovel that I’ve propped against the wall and glances back and forth between the two of us.

Davis’s panicked eyes are pleading with me to do something as he crosses and uncrosses his arms over his bare chest.Poor man….he’s so unnerved by my unexpected visitor he has no idea what he’s supposed to do.

“Why don’t you turn the bacon? I’ll just see Aiden to the door.” He says nothing when I take Aiden by the arm and steer him the opposite direction.

Aiden is silent until he steps out on the porch, then glares at me and speaks low under his breath. “What the hell are you doing? You’re sleeping with him now?”

Technically, yes. But I’m not confirming anything. “Just let it go, alright. We’re….figuring things out.”

“You’re figuring things out?” he air quotes. “What things? As in the fact that he’s a married man. And the little known fact that he’s straight.”

“Thank you for pointing out what I already know.” I lean closer, whispering, “Please, just trust me on this. Okay?” I can’t possibly explain to my best friend how Davis and I meet one another’s needs in a variety of ways. I can’t begin to share with him the raucous feelings I have for my sweet neighbor. How can I, when I’m having a hard time rationalizing those feelings to myself?

He stares at me for long, silent moments, then slowly nods in agreement. “Just take care of yourself, alright?”

“I will.”

Davis is seated on a stool, staring down into his coffee cup when I return. I take a seat and consider what to do next. He’s going to flee…I just know it. Aiden’s appearance made reality all toorealfor him. It also ruined the beautiful morning we were having, and the hot little interlude we were wrapped up in as well.

“How do you like your eggs?” he asks, and my mouth falls open in shock. Anger I expect. Just like I expect him to shut down and turn off his emotions like he’s so good at doing. But the man glancing over at me with a half-smile isn’t angry or closed off. His pink cheeks still hint at his embarrassment, but overall he’s the exact same man I woke up with a short while ago: sweet, sexy, and perfect.

I smile at him and run my knuckles over his cheek. “Scrambled is fine.”

“Scrambled it is.”
