And fuck if my loins don’t stir at the sight.

Down, girl!

Focus dammit!

My vagina must have missed the memo where we were told that basically our entire lives—and our brother’s—were on the line. She’s becoming quite the hussy, practically begging me to hop up on one of these counters and part my thighs to show him my pussy, like I’m one of these jewels on display.

“May I help you, miss?” I glance up and see a salesman is speaking to me.

Respond, you idiot!“Uh, yes. I’m looking for a set of jewelry in the Entrapped Collection.”

He looks at me with confusion and folds his arms across his chest, twitching his sniveling little nose. “Do you mean the Ensnared Collection?”

I nod. “Yes. That’s the one.”

He pauses for a moment, and I think I might puke. “It’s only just arrived. Let me retrieve it from the vault.”

“Thank you,” I mutter while pretending to find something interesting inside the glass case before me.

My nerves begin to fire, my clammy hands coming back with a vengeance.

This is it.

Be cool, Rory. Be cool. The only one in here who knows you’re a fake is you.

Moving along the case, my eyes flit along the green emeralds, blue sapphires, and even an enormous black diamond. I don’t even realize it, but soon I’m standing next tohimagain. I can feel my resting bitch face fall into place as I unintentionally give the saleswoman taking care of him the side-eye.

She leans down over the glass case, trying to act sultry. “That Rolex looks simply marvelous on you, Mr—”

“Alistair,” he interrupts her. “You can call me Alistair. And if you think so, Dani, then I guess I’ll have to buy it.” Even his voice has swagger. So much so that I can almost hear that woman, Dani, blushing.

“May I present the Ensnared diamond set to you, Miss…” I turn to see my salesman is back and asking for my name.

Fuck. What do I tell him?

“O’Brien,” I blurt out, internally sewing my mouth shut. Why the hell would I tell him my real last name?

Stupid. Stupid. Stupid.

I know better than that. I can only blame my slip on my nerves and the man distracting me. I have no choice but to play it off now, so I flip my hair over my shoulder and adopt a smirk similar to all the rich pigs in here, acting as if he is below me.

His eyes flash as if he’s just been let in on a huge secret, and perhaps he has. “Well, Ms. O’Brien. Here it is.” Gerald—I note the name on his name tag—lifts an off-white piece of cloth from a stand, and I see the diamonds for the first time.

“Wow.” I know I should contain myself, but I’ve never seen anything so beautiful. Each diamond is shaped like a teardrop as if the diamonds themselves are crying. Remembering myself, I inquire, “May I try them on?”

I look Gerald directly in his eyes, pushing my tits up and out, tilting my head in a seductive manner. Shit, it worked on Cory, didn’t it?

“Of course, Ms. O’Brien. Allow me.” Gerald lifts up a section of glass and steps out into the feeding chamber with me. First, he lifts my hand and scrutinizes the shitty paint job on my nails, but he bites his tongue and secures the bracelet. The necklace comes next, and he asks me to turn my back to him and lift my hair.

Having his hands brush along my neck makes me want to stab him in the face, and I immediately regret not taking my switchblade along with me. “I’ll ask you to do the earrings yourself, Ms. O’Brien.” He offers me the earrings.

I accept them with as much grace as I can muster. “Thank you,” I purr. Nerves have my hands shaking, and I struggle to insert the earring posts into the holes in my ears. I’m suddenly very hot, and the lights feel like fire on my skin. All eyes are on me. I just know it. Everyone knows I’m a fraud, a thief, someone below their level.

When I risk a glance into the mirror Gerald has set in front of me, I don’t even see myself. Instead, I move around and look at everyone else in the store, and shockingly, no one is paying me any attention.

Well, that’s not exactly true.

The blond man is watching me now that he thinks I’m not looking, so I purposely bend over to look in the mirror, showing off my ass. His eyes flare as he ignores the saleswoman, those baby blues locked on me and filled with desire and hunger. It feels good to be checked out by a man like him.
