The whiplash from Maddox’s hate and anger to Alistair’s genuine smile and flirting has me blinking like an idiot. Alistair chuckles and grabs a strip of leather from his pocket—a leash. He winds it around his knuckles as I watch, and my dirty mind instantly imagines him doing that to ropes, ropes he could tie me up with. Like he knows my thoughts, he runs it across his hand and slaps his palm almost teasingly before leaning in and running it across my chin.

“For a walk of course. Care to join us?” He murmurs the last seductively, and I don’t think he means for just the walk.

“Join you?” I repeat dumbly as he unwinds the leather leash and leans down, clipping it onto Mischief’s collar.

“Of course, unless you would rather stay here alone?” He looks up and winks. “I have heard I’m good company. I might even give you belly rubs too.” He laughs before walking past me, my dog in tow.

Only when they leave the apartment do I turn. What the hell is happening?

“Are you coming?” he calls, laughter evident in his tone.

I hesitate, looking around at the cold apartment as Mischief’s happy yips reach me. Am I?

“Yes,” I reply before yanking on my heels again. “Coming!” I say louder.

Fuck it, what else have I got to lose?

Nothing.
