Rolling her green eyes, she marches forward, her nose scrunched in anger.

Adorable.

“And just what do you think you’re doing here, Rogan Dixen?” she growls, poking her finger into my chest with each word.

I snatch her finger up and bring it to my lips, sucking it into my mouth before she pulls it out, startled. Grinning, I reply, “Isn’t it obvious? Following you, Hellcat.”

“I don’t need you to follow me,” she seethes, pushing past me. Just then, a man in a cheap suit with a nametag revealing he’s called Brian comes out.

“Hey, you can’t park—”

I shut him up by shoving a wad of twenties into his pocket. “Keep the change,” I mutter, patting his jacket before strolling after Rory. My hellcat is already signing in at a desk manned by two women wearing scrubs.

The brunette, Abby, sets her dark eyes on me and smiles brilliantly. “Welcome to Runwood Recovery. I’m Abby. How can I help you?”

She pushes her chest out and scrunches a shoulder, trying to look sexy, but I only have eyes for the floppy hat girl who’s glaring at Abby as if she’d threatened to kill her dog.

Rory glances from me then back to Abby and props her hands on her hips. “How come you never greet me like that?” she snarks.

Abby doesn’t even pull her eyes from me as she blows a bubble with her gum, lets it pop, then sucks it off her lip. I force myself not to roll my eyes and paste a smile onto my face.

“Well, since it’s my first time here, maybe you could give me a tour?” I don’t look at Rory, keeping my eyes on Abby, but I watch her reaction in my peripheral…and she’s pissed.

Good.

Serves her right after all the teasing she’s done to me, tasting one of my brothers and letting the other taste her, while I’m standing there with a hard-on and my dick in my fist.

Abby’s smile takes up her entire face. “I’d love to.” She turns to the other woman who’s typing into a computer. “Margaret, you got the desk?”

Margaret waves her off, and Abby almost bounces around the desk, but Rory steps in front of me possessively. “He doesn’t need a fucking tour,Abby.Mr. Dixen is with me.”

At the revelation of my identity, Abby’s eyes widen. “Mr. Dixen, as in Dixen Enterprises?”

Now my own smile grows, even when Rory turns to look at me with an annoyed expression on her face. “You’ve heard of me, Abby?”

Abby shudders at the sound of her name on my lips. “Yes, actually, I interviewed not too long ago for a secretarial position. But the old hag who interviewed me tossed me out before the second round.”

My demeanor changes faster than the sky during a storm, and I let Abby see how much she’s displeased me. “That old hag, as you call her, is like family to me. She helped my parents build Dixen Enterprises from the ground up and stayed on when my brothers and I took over. How dare you insinuate that she’s this ancient, decrepit thing when you couldn’t hold a candle to her.”

I look her up and down with a sneer on my face as her mouth drops open.

“I see why she didn’t let you pass, but if your interview had been up to me, I wouldn’t have even let you through the fucking front door. Come on, Rory.”

I seize Rory’s hand as she grins victoriously, gazing up at me from under her hat.

“You have to sign in—” Abby calls, but I cut her off.

“I don’t have to do anything,Abby,” I retort, not even bothering to glance back at her. “Remember that if I’m ever unfortunate enough to cross paths with you again.”

“That was fucking awesome,” Rory almost squeals, even though she tries to keep her voice low as we climb a set of stairs. “Abby has always been a bitch to me.”

“It’s because she’s jealous, you know,” I answer. “She sees you as a woman who she could never hope to be, and she hates you for it.”

Rory’s cheeks heat, and she looks away from me. “I’m nothing special, and now you’re about to find out just how insignificant I am, how pathetic my life really is.”

The somber tone of her voice has me frowning. “Whatever it is, it won’t change my opinion of you, Rory. We all have pasts. There’s no point trying to hide it. Our pasts mold us, shape us. Without them, you might not be the incredible woman you are today.”

I hold her hand tight as she looks up at me, her eyes wide and lips parted on a gasp. “You think I’m…incredible?”
