CHAPTER 36

OLIVE

I was right.

They turned Hannah in.

Adrenaline races through me as I unlock the front door, trembling.

I just need some airto stop my world from unraveling.

I can’t be in the same house as them. I should steal one of Brock’s pretentious cars and drive away.

But right now, I need to get the fuck out of this fucking house, because they’re making my skin crawl.

Their scents, mixed with sadness and despair, cloud my senses and break my heart.

Go back to Alphas!

But I can’t. Even if I could just step out in the driveway and breathe for just a moment—

“Olive, don’t!” One of them calls out to me, but I block it out.

My moment of recklessness evaporates as soon as I swing open the front door, coming face to me with a police officer.

I have incredible timing—the worst in the world.

He’s an Alpha, that much is for certain. Dressed in his dark uniform, he meets my eyes, concerned. “Ma’am, is everything all right—”

But then his nostrils flare and his pupils enlarge.

And I’m utterly, truly fucked.

“Omega?” he whispers, his eyes wide with disbelief.

The recognition dawns across his face, and my stomach sinks.

I had a lie rehearsed if the authorities ever found me.

But I can’t find the words as Killian comes behind me, his hand at the small of my back.

“Officer,” he says coolly, as the man narrows his eyes at Killian.

“Sir, are you housing an Omega against her will?” He demands, looking back at me. “Miss, how long have you been here?”

The officer’s scent grows putrid, and mixed with Killian’s rage, I’m moments away from a dangerous escalation.

If I tell the truth, Killian, Dylan, and Brock are at risk.

They could be thrown in prison foryears.

Good, a small voice whispers. They deserve it.

But my conscience tugs at me, my inner Omega horrified at the idea of them being hurt.

Protect Alphas!

So, I lie, letting tears form in my eyes.
