“Well?” He asks expectantly. “Does she hate us?”

“You mean more than usual?” I deadpan. “No. Well, maybe you, for acting like a gloating asshole. And what the hell is wrong with both of you? She’s already been through enough, and you need to have an argument about whether or not she wasforced?”

Brock remains silent, engrossed in his laptop, purposely ignoring me and being a dick.

Killian has the sense to look chastised, an expression I rarely see on my best friend’s face.

“Fuck,” he murmurs, running a hand through his hair. “I fucked up.”

“No shit,” Brock murmurs, and we turn to look at him.

“Well, you did too, asshole,” Killian snarls.

“Alright,” I hiss. “Enough. You two need to get along, for Olive’s sake. So, this shit doesn’t happen again. She’s agreed to have dinner with us tonight.Allof us. And if you act up, I’ll stab you both with a steak knife.”

I’m not kidding. I’ve always been teased for being a pacifist, but now, I’m not fucking around.

Even if she barely finds me tolerable for the rest of her life, even if she mates with Killian, I’ll protect her until my dying breath.

And that includes skewering my brother and best friend.
