My blood runs cold, and I inhale slowly.

No please no

Who would willingly come to this hellhole?

The streets were empty when I came in. What could—

Pepper. Pine.

Oh, no.

My body tingles, goosebumps prickling on my skin as a scent assaults my senses.

Footsteps come closer, slowly but surely, powerful feet crunching on glass and wood.

Alpha.

There’s a fuckingAlphain here with me.

I click off my flashlight, shrouding myself in darkness. Moonlight streams in from the broken plywood, which now has a bigger gap than before.

My movements aren’t quick. I limp down another aisle, lowering myself in between drink coolers and shelves of picked-over chips.

I knock one over, and it crumples to the floor in the dark, its plastic sound slicing through the silence.

The bastardchuckles, and my stomach does a flip.

Oh, myGod.

And his scent…

My lungs burn with the need to inhale him again. It’s been so long since I’ve been around an Alpha, and my body no longer has natural immunity to their scent.

There’s a terrifying part of me that wants to stay frozen where I am and let him find me.

But if he does, one of two things will happen.

He will turn me in immediately, gaining him access toEden.

Access to any Omega he wants.

Or…

He can take me for himself.

I’m not sure which is worse.

Which is why I need to get out of herenow, no matter how tempting his scent.

I take in one more shaky breath, goosebumps rising on my skin as my inner Omega purrs in delight. My lungs fill, then I start to move.

There’s no way to outrun him—I can only sneak past him.

The wind continues to howl, and the plywood smacks against the glass, drowning out the sound of my movements.

Until the corner of a warped shelf snags against my heel, and I lose my balance.

A whimper escapes me as my hands catch my fall, debris settling into my palms.
