My chest rumbles, but I cough to cover up the sound.

But Killian notices, as always.

This time, he’s kind enough not to point it out.

He probably still feels like shit from earlier.

“It’s one of my favorites, too,” he grins at her, his cheeks turning red.

Fuckinghell.

Watching my younger brother flirt with the girl I want couldn’t be more awkward. I’m already regretting this dinner, and we haven’t even started eating yet.

Besides, it’s not as if she’d choose me, anyway. Playing house with the four of us is only temporary.

Couldshe want me?

I’ve been an asshole to her this entire time. I told herEdenwas the perfect place for her, and she was gracious enough to not sayI told you soas we watched television together.

Kind enough to not slap me in the face when I implied Killian did something awful to her.

I take a bite of fresh-baked bread, lost in thought. There’s a conversation going on, Killian saying something snarky, and Dylan staring blankly at me, but I’m somewhere else entirely.

Until Olive speaks.

“I’m almost out of suppressants.”
