JOSIE

After walking around town for over an hour, we text Jess from Harley’s phone to let her know we were unsuccessful in locating Nick. We decide to head back home. I’m starting to feel tired, and my feet are aching. The rain is coming in heavy now. I slide out of Harley’s suit jacket and fling it over my arm.

The house is pitch-black when I step onto the porch, and I stop. Harley grunts as our shoulders collide.

“Ow,” he mutters.

I stare ahead, blinking.

“What?” he asks.

“The door.”

He looks at the door, noticing that it’s open. I definitely locked it when I left. After everything, I’ve become quite OCD with locking the windows and doors.

Harley quickly moves in front of me and throws his arm out when I try to step around him. He pushes it open with his foot and steps inside. I walk in after him and try to find the light switch.

Suddenly, something hard pushes against me and I stumble. My ankle makes an awful sound as it bends in my heels. I fall to the floor with a shriek, hitting Harley on my way down.

“Jesus—fuck!” he cries out, trying to catch me, and we both end up in a tangle of limbs on the floor.

Apopechoes in the room. The door locking. Lights flood the room and I wince, blinking at the brightness. I moan, looking down at my ankle. It’s either sprained or broken. Definitelysomethingwith the sound it made, and the pain pulsing through the lower part of my leg.

“Hi, Josie.”

Goosebumps scatter across my skin. I swallow uneasily. I’d recognise that voice anywhere. He reaches over and slams something hard against the back of Harley’s head. A crack fills the air, and a scream leaves my lips. Harley falls to the ground, going limp.

A slow, sadistic smile stretches across Elliot’s face as he faces me.

“Did you miss me?”
