ISTARED AT THE CLOCKon the wall, watching minute after minute tick by. Ten more minutes passed, and the shrieking alarms finally stopped. was quiet. Too quiet. All I could hear was the THUMP THUMP of my rapidly beating heart.

Daniel was probably a menace to anyone who tried to make an unauthorized entrance into the stateroom, but he was useless to me. He didn’t say a word. No explanations. No useful information.

Sick of the silence I asked him one question. “What’s happening?” and his response was as if I were back at the stupid hotel.

“Mr. Calegari will explain whatever he wants you to know.”

Mr. Calegari and I were going to have words. Bungalow intruders and oceanic explosions weren’t part of the bargain and had nothing to do with him determining the “where, when and how” of losing my virginity, which was a moot point now that the act was done. He owed me explanations and I would get them, as soon as my heart stopped racing and the blood flowed properly through my veins again.

Forty-five minutes from the time we ran into the stateroom, Dante finally reappeared. I hadn’t moved from my perch on the couch, but I looked up as Daniel touched the Bluetooth in his ear, said “copy,” then stepped away from the door.

I was pissed at him, but I couldn’t help myself. As soon as Dante strode into the room looking as powerful and confident as ever, I threw myself into his arms because power and confidence were exactly what I didn’t have and were desperately what I needed.

“You’re shaking,” was all he said as his arms wrapped around me.

I didn’t speak but wrapped my arms around his waist and held on. I welcomed his embrace as his palm made soothing circles on my back. Memories of another stressful night surfaced. Of soothing words. And promises kept.

“Don’t be afraid to ask me for what you need.”

In the aftermath of the explosion, all I needed washim. I wanted to speak the words, but my mouth just opened and closed like a fool.

Dante fisted my ponytail and tilted my head back. His lips crashed into mine, parting my mouth and leaving me breathless when he raised his head.

Lust and excitement filled his eyes. I couldn’t look away. I wanted to, but there was so much strength in his eyes, it empowered me to hold his gaze. I felt his dominance and felt my surrender to it.

“You don’t have to ask this time,” he said hoarsely. “I see you, baby girl. I know what you need.”
