Chapter Five

-Noemi-

I’VE FELT THAT WARMTHbefore, that beautiful pressure that claimed me, stoking my desire to a fever pitch. I wasn’t alarmed when his firm hand stroked my body from neck to ankle, taking me from slumber to a carnal fantasy. I moaned when his mouth followed the same path before he wrapped my hair in his hand and pulled my head back. Dante’s mouth traveled the length of my throat, pausing above my ear.

“Fuuuuck. I can’t get enough of you,” he groaned right before he angled my hips and sank into me from behind. I loved the feel of his weight pushing me into the mattress as I met each of his demanding thrusts.

“Take me, baby girl. All of me.”

Again and again. His hips pistoned faster and faster as I took his length deeper.

The sun began to light the cabin with blues and pinks splashed outside the window. The view was stunning, but the feel of him claiming my body.... I could have awoken to Dante’s sexual demands any and every day of the week and forgotten that the sun even existed.

“WATCH YOUR STEP,” DANTEwarned as we walked down the gangway to the dock.

“Are you sure this is a good idea?” I asked, taking his hand as I reached the bottom.

“We’ll be fine.”

I looked behind me to the two crew members who were joining us on our excursion. Dante suggested a shopping trip to the village while we waited for the windows to be repaired. Nerves got the better of me, but I felt safer when Dante was with me than I did alone.

“Is that why we need bodyguards? Because everything is fine?” I smiled at the two men behind us but was met with stoic professionalism.

“Just a precaution,” Dante answered as he helped me into the front seat of the same car we had driven yesterday. “You can shop to pass the time until the windows are repaired. They’ll stay far enough away to give us privacy.”

I frowned at him as I buckled my seat belt. “Why do I get the feeling you’re not telling me everything?”

The two crew members got into another car that sat in the marina parking lot next to ours.

“Because you’re amazingly and frustratingly perceptive.”

He walked around the car and took the driver’s seat.

He cupped my chin and looked down at me. “I thought their presence would make you feel better. No, I don’t expect there to be any more intruders or pirates, and we’ll be out in the open, but considering the luck we’ve had since we arrived in Barbados, I’m hoping they’ll deter any pickpockets, muggers or any other lowlife that has nothing better to do with his time than bother us. Okay?”

“I’d be with you.” I covered his hand with mine.

Abruptly, he let go of my chin and started the car. “I may have to step away for a few minutes while you shop. Not for long but I have some calls to make.”

I tried to hide my disappointment by shrugging. “I guess I should do the same. I never got a hold of Willis, and I still need to call Lilly.”

He nodded. Silent, brooding Dante had returned. He had been attentive all morning, just short of charming.

We didn’t shower together, and I didn’t ask to once the realization hit me that we had slept together - all night. Dante didn’t get up and leave; no early morning sneaking out of the cabin. That was enough. We showered at the same time, but in different rooms. When we met again on the aft deck, he pushed the pads of my fingers against his lips and pulled out a chair for me. We ate breakfast overlooking the sharp blue water. Our conversation was minimal, and I was okay with that.

The marina wasn’t far from a small village that offered everything a tourist would want: shops, restaurants, bars and more shops. I worked hard on my psyche as we walked the open-air market. No expectations, but expectations weren’t the same as desires.

We started out awkwardly, with Dante stiff and tense beside me as we strolled through the village. My nerves fed off his. I knew it was difficult for him. He didn’t seem to be enjoying our outing which only served to increase my anxiety. To deal with it, I chatted. Non-stop. “Oohing” and “ahhing” over everything that caught my eye. To ease his anxiety, Dante offered to buy me anything and everything I picked up.

When I tried on the tenth bracelet, he offered one more time to buy it for me.

“If I let you buy me everything I’ve admired so far, my arm would be weighted down,” I laughed as I put the bracelet back.

“You haven’t let me buy you anything yet,” he groused.

His arm slipped around my waist as he pointed to the jewelry in the case. “I’m serious, Noemi. If there’s something you’d like, money’s no object.”
