Chapter Six

- Sebastian -

Ipushed the numbersinto the keybox, then knocked on the door. Not knowing what to expect, I ducked as soon as I pushed the door open and braced myself for flying birds of prey.

Instead of being met with airborne owls, laughter... Lilly’s laughter... hit me.

“Feeling threatened, are we?”

I had a clever retort in mind, but the words couldn’t make their way out of my mouth. Lilly had been seated on the black recliner, but as soon as I entered the room, she stood up. Long legs, a black body-contouring dress with sequined paisley swirls, and red heels that added about three inches to her height. Red-stained lips I wanted to see wrapped around my cock.

Fuck me.

“Is this what you did all day?” I murmured.

She smiled and turned in a circle. “Do you like it?”

“I do.”Idiot.These were the only words she’d left me with?

“You have good taste.”

“I do?”Dumbass.

“The clothes,” she replied, looking at me like I was stupid, which I couldn’t blame her for because I was acting like I didn’t have two wits about me. “The clothes are perfect.”

Did I take the credit? Fuck, why not? “You’d look good in a paper sack.”

Her eyes narrowed. “You didn’t buy these, did you?”

“I did. I paid for every penny of them.”

“Let me rephrase that. You didn’t select the clothes, did you?”

“Does it really matter?”

She stood in front of me and tossed her hair over her shoulder. “Not at all. But it gave me something to talk about besides telling you how much I hate you right now.”

I put my elbow out for her to take. “Just for right now? I’ll take that. It leaves me hope that eventually you’ll change your mind.”

She plastered a fake smile on her mouth and stared up at me. “You kept me locked in a room all day. Why thehellwould I change my mind?”

“Your cooperation is alarming, but I have a proposition for you.”

“Oh, I cannot wait to hear this, but after we eat, if you please, master. While your stylist worked wonders, your chef leaves something to be desired.”

I nearly stumbled when she called me ‘master.’ If she only knew where my mind had been the last few months; she’d never have let the word pass her lips.

“It’s the same chef who made us the fondue who’s cooking our dinner tonight. How did he piss you off?”

I led her down the hall to the stairs and stepped aside so she could walk in front of me.

“He sent a lunch of two small sandwiches and a salad that wouldn’t feed a rabbit. I eat, as you know. You might share that information with him. There’d better be more than three dots of gel and a carrot on my plate or I won’t be responsible for my behavior.”

I stepped past her as we reached the bottom of the stairs and put my hand out to take hers. Natural and effortless, she took my hand, and I guided her down the last few steps.

I stood in front of her when she stepped down so that she had no choice but to stand right in front of me, so close I could feel the curve of her breasts against my chest.

“What game are you playing, Princess?” I whispered.
