“No. You wouldn’t have.”

She looked at the box and I looked at her, a smile forming as I watched her hesitate.

“Open it.”

And still, she just stared at the box.

“It won’t bite.” Well, not much. Unless she moved the wrong way or didn’t...fuck me. I had to wait.

“Lilly, open the damn box.”

Her eyes snapped up to mine. My urgency seemed made her anxious.

“Let me help you.” Calm. Down. Calm the hell down.

I left the box in her hands but reached out to open the lid for her. Her mouth fell open. I couldn’t tell if it was from excitement, curiosity, or disgust. The velvet lined, diamond and crystal encrusted handcuffs shimmered brilliantly in their black velvet blanket. Lilly reached one finger out and stroked the dazzling curve of one cuff before she withdrew it, and her expression changed again.

“What is this? Oh no, ewwww, Sebastian.”

She wrinkled her nose in disgust and I gently closed the lid.

“I’m not wearing someone else’s castoffs.”

“No one’s worn these, Princess. I bought them just for you. No one else has had the pleasure.”

“Pleasure? Is that what being your prisoner is? A pleasure?”

“It can be, yes. Very pleasurable, if you let it.”

She bit her lower lip, her eyes lingering on the box. I opened it again, hoping to tempt her.

“They’re beautiful.” She traced the line of diamonds that ran beside the velvet trim.

“They’ll look beautiful on you.”

Her eyes remained on the handcuffs. “I don’t know. I’ve never...”

‘I don’t know’didn’t mean“no.”She was tempted. She just needed a little more time. I had time. I could give her that.

I pulled the box from her hands and set it on the dresser. “It doesn’t have to be tonight, but at some point, I’d like to see you wearing them.”

“Are you asking or telling?”

“Offering,” I corrected her.

“Maybe I have some demands of my own.”

“Prisoners don’t get to make demands.”

She ignored my taunt.

“If you want to give me a gift, I want to go back to work in my shop and get it ready. Three weeks isn’t long, Sebastian. I’m not sure what magical event you’re waiting for, but I need to get back to work. I can’t play Beauty to your Beast right now. I just don’t have the time.”

I knew how important this was to her. Her boutique wasn’t just a hobby or a passing interest. She realized her own ambition. For the first time in her life, she had a purpose. She had become more than just Dante and Gabriel Calegari’s little sister. I was the last person who wanted to stand in her way. But I had to wait... for a while longer.

“Give me a few days and then we’ll return to Connecticut. I’ll supply whatever manpower you need to get caught up. Just be patient, Princess, and we’ll go back to Connecticut. Together.”
