I stood up to take her hand. “Cue the cheesy line: we don’t need music.”

And I didn’t plan on dancing, not really. Holding her tightly to my body as we swayed to a rhythm set by our beating hearts and the rising heat between us was enough for me. My arms went around her waist, fitting her to my body. One hand rested on the small of her back while the other stroked her hip. Lilly’s arms encircled my neck, but that wasn’t enough for either of us.

After a few seconds of barely moving, she rested her head against my chest. My arms tightened possessively.

“You dance very well, for a hardened crime lord, that is.” Despite our lack of movement, Lilly complimented me as she snuggled against my chest.

“Don’t let this charming exterior fool you. I’m a complete asshole.”

Can you actually feel a smile? Lilly’s face was pressed against my shirt, but I felt her, felt the tension leave her body, felt the lightness of her soul.

“I know why some people would believe that, so why do I not believe you?”

“Because you’re a fool,” I whispered against the top of her head.
