The looks they exchanged sent a chill down my spine and I swallowed hard, my hand gripping the back of Sebastian’s tee-shirt.

Frowning, he looked down at me.

“Then you’re welcome to stay for breakfast.”

Noemi smiled as she took Dante’s arm. “Perhaps we should wait...uhm... somewhere else?” she suggested.

It was on the tip of my tongue to tell her that wasn’t necessary, but as usual, there were things happening that I knew nothing about. How on Earth would Dante know when Sebastian’s staff were arriving for duty?

I wasn’t used to questioning my brother, but I had no problem asking Sebastian.

“Actually, if you want to go down the hall and take a left to the main living area, there’s a great view from there. I’ll have some coffee sent and we can enjoy the view while breakfast is prepared.”

Sebastian stiffened beside me. I knew what he was dealing with. After his confession last night, I knew what was going through his mind.

But he had to trust me.

Dante didn’t move until Noemi gave him a nudge. “That sounds wonderful,” she said. “We’ll meet you there. The property is beautiful, Sebastian. Thank you for.... Well, thank you.”

She took Dante’s hand and practically dragged him from the room. I followed them with a nod and a smile before I closed the door behind them. I walked back to Sebastian.

“I know this is hard.” I ran my hand over his chest as it rumbled with his discontented growl.“But it’s for the best. Trust me.”

Sebastian grabbed my hand and pulled it to his lips. “You’re not the person I don’t trust.”

“He’s not here to kill you. I can promise you that.”

Sebastian looked down at me. I understood that, unlike my brother, Sebastian’s emotionless expression was just the opposite. It was when he was working the hardest to separate himself from his feelings.

“You can’t promise me anything. I don’t think you know your brother very well, Princess.”

“There may be things about Dante that are a mystery to me, but one thing isn’t.”

“Enlighten me so I can sleep better tonight,” Sebastian drawled tightly.

“My brother is, uhm, not a very emotional person, and he doesn’t do anything on a whim. He’s very... methodical. I’ve been gone for three days and he’s already here. And he brought Noemi with him.”

“I’m not following you.”

“He’s head over heels in love with her. There’s no way he’s going to impulsively come knocking at your door—”

“That’s not exactly what happened. Despite all my security, he broke into my house, Lilly. I don’t know how the fuck he managed it.”

I didn’t dwell on what I knew nothing about. I had no idea how Dante got around Sebastian’s vast security system; how he got past an electric fence, 24/7 drone surveillance and a gatehouse full of security guards.

But there was that one factor I couldn’t ignore. I don’t know why Dante hadn’t just knocked on the door when he hadherwith him.

“Noemi is here, Sebastian. Dante’s not a murderer and he certainly didn’t bring Noemi with him so she could watch him kill you. Even if he wanted to rid the world of Sebastian St. Valentine, this isn’t how he’d do it.”

“It’s not as innocent as it sounds, Princess.”

“I know. I can’t say how I know; I justknow. Dante works in strange ways—”

“He’s no better than I am, Lilly. No better than Gabriel.”

“I didn’t say he was. I’m only saying that...heck, I don’t know what I’m saying. I know he had to have done something to gain access to the property. I’m not sure what—”

Sebastian closed his eyes. “I can guess. We need to make this quick, Princess. I need to let my men know not to shoot them on sight.”
