I shot another irritated look at Sebastian, who remained stoic as he ignored me and exited the vehicle. My door was pulled open by a man I recognized from my last visit. He put his hand out to grasp mine.

“Fabian, isn’t it?” I said sweetly, plastering the same red-stained smile on my mouth that I had used to lure many lack witted men in the past.

“Yes,” he replied, reaching for my hand.

“Don’t touch me.”

I pulled back and swung my legs over to get out of the vehicle. Fabian jumped back as if I’d bit him.

Beside him, Sebastian tried to hide his laughter by coughing into his hand.

I slid out and stood with my back straight, towering over the slightly shorter Fabian thanks to my heels. I waited, putting on an air of boredom and indifference. I looked at each of the six men. Most looked away, a few turned to look at one another. Finally, my eyes landed back on Sebastian.

“Nice performance, Princess. Let’s go.”

He put his hand on the small of my back, which tightened beneath his touch; however, I let it remain there as he guided me to another vehicle.

The man beside the door pulled it open quickly.

I rolled my eyes. “Are you serious?”

Sebastian nudged the small of my back. “Get in.”

Frowning, I climbed into the back of the second car.

Sebastian exchanged a few words with Fabian, then he joined me in the back seat.

“Musical cars?” What else did I have to say?

“Would you like the wine now?” he asked, ignoring my question.

“Sure,” I drawled. “Why not.”

The car pulled back out of the driveway. I hid a sudden yawn behind the back of my hand and leaned against the seat. Sebastian pressed a glass of wine into my hand.

“Are you hungry?”

I shook my head. It was too late to eat. “This is fine.” I took a small sip of wine, which, judging by its smooth finish, was a nice merlot.

We pulled out of the drive and back onto the darkened streets. A maze of dark roads followed.

I yawned. “Where are we going?”

It was late. I’d been working hard. I was tired. I had no more will to think about how I should have resisted him, how I should have let him shoot me before I got into any vehicle with him again. Instead, I was literally falling asleep in the back seat.

I turned into the warmth of his hand as he stroked my cheek. My eyelids fluttered shut. The weight of a soft chenille blanket covered me.

“Go to sleep, Princess. You’ll find out more in the morning.” Whispered words lingered in the air. I couldn’t resist the warmth of the blanket or his touch.

“I’m too nice to you,” I muttered to his shoulder as I snuggled against him.

His chest rumbled lightly with soft, deep laughter. “It’s not going to last, so I’ll take it as long as I can get it.”

“Why are you doing this?” I asked as sleep took over.

He sighed. His arm tightened around my shoulder. “Because he didn’t give me any other choice, Princess.” He dropped a kiss on my temple. I wanted to fight the fatigue and enjoy being in his arms again, but I didn’t have the strength.

“Go to sleep, Lilly,” he whispered near my ear. “Get your rest. You’ll need it to tell me how much you hate me in the morning.”
