“I got it handled. You’ll be the first to know. Any preferences on your part?”

This was one of those conversations where I had to take a back seat to Dante’s leadership as head of our real family.

He scrolled through his phone again, not meeting my eyes as he spoke. “No godfather crap. If they don’t know Ma personally, they’re not invited.”

Like that was hard to do. Most of my crew knew my family and adored my mother. Who wouldn’t love a woman who sent them handmade pasta and fresh sauce? The rest weren’t high enough in status to have even met her. Despite that, most of them would be working security that night anyway. Andre would be an invited guest. That was about it. The rest of the group, even if they were business associates, would be comprised of people my mother called friends, our neighbors, and the few relatives we had in the states. As for the rest of the details, that was Lilly’s department.

“Lilly and Ma are making the guest list so that won’t be an issue.”

Dante nodded and kept working on his phone.

I stood up and stretched. My backache reminded me it was nearly dawn. “Will I see you before you leave?”

Dante shrugged. “If you’re up before noon.”

I laughed as I walked away. “Have a safe flight.”
