Page 5 of Your Path To Me

We both seem to take a deep breath before speaking together.

“I know you-“ her words reach me.

“I remember you-“ my words came out in unison.

Our eyes widen at each other as we pause and then we both laugh.

“You what?” she asks again.

“I remember you from my sister’s ballet class.”

Her hand reaches her chest, “I remember you from there as well,” my blood flows again at the warmth of her smile.

“You do?” I ask and she nods.

“You’re Liza brother,” she begins but then her smile lessens.

Oh God, she hates me.

“I’m so sorry I didn’t do better,” I throw the words out before she has a chance to run.

“You are?” she seems surprised.

I nod and take another big sip of my wine, “I should have done so much more to make Liza shut up, but I just wanted to get her out of there. I’m so sorry. I can’t imagine how that made you feel.”

“Well,” her hands draw to her lap as she looks down and fidgets, “I must admit, I thought you probably agreed with her since you didn’t say anything.”

“Oh my God no,” I reach my hand across the table again, hoping she’ll take it.

She looks at my hand and then places hers in mine. My chest warms and my stomach flips.

I still have a chance.

"The truth is, I always noticed you, Macy. I had the biggest crush on you, but I figured I was a little too old for you back then," My thumb begins to rub her hand as her eyes stare deep into mine. "And then that happened with Liza and I figured my chances we over. Even if I did ever have a chance, after she did and said what she said, I didn't think you'd ever want to talk to anyone associated or related to her again.”

Her eyes widen a bit, “really?”

"Yes," I get up now, unable to contain my need for her forgiveness, and kneel next to her chair. "But then you showed up, here again, six months ago and I couldn't stay away. I watched you in that library like I used to watch you at practice," I take a deep breath again, "please forgive me, Macy. Give me a chance to show you how special you are."

She looks at me again, like she's drinking me in and reading my mind all at once, and then she slowly leans down and meets my lips.

Fireworks explode all over my body.

She kissed me. She actually kissed me. I’m the luckiest man in the world.

Macy

He’sbeen watchingme?

All this time I thought he never noticed me. I thought he didn’t care; or worse, that he felt the same way Liza did.

This whole day has been a fairy tale, and as great as it has been, I can’t help but wonder if everything will turn back into a pumpkin at midnight.

I hope not.

Who is this man? It’s like I’m having to learn him all over again. I had such a skewed idea of who he was. I almost feel silly for being so judgmental becausethisman…he’s a dream. He’s nothing like I expected. Nothing like I thought all these years…since that day.
