“There is a silver lining here,” he grumbled around it.

“What’s that?”

He took a few seconds to finish chewing. “Aside from the amazing conversation I’ll afford you”—he grinned from behind the wheel—“the drive will give you time to think about what you want to say.”

I watched the scenery pass by as Ben drove us back. He was right. I did have plenty of time to think.

The quiet contemplation filled me with a nervous energy I hated. I didn’t want to lose her. I wanted to let her come to me, to choose me. Male ego aside, Ben was right. I needed to fight for her. As soon as I could, I’d track her down and hope she’d give me a chance to prove we belonged together.

I slid out of Ben’s car and said thank you one last time before he drove off. I looked across the street and out to the view in front of me. There was a storm brewing in the distance.

Ben’s words about storms and rainbows swirled in my head.

I needed to talk with Marisa. We needed to clear the air and figure out how to get past the shitstorm that temporarily clouded our otherwise happy life. Together.

We needed to fight through the storm and create our own rainbow.
