“Promises, promises,” he teased, using my words against me.

I couldn’t help but laugh uncontrollably at the way he was smiling.

He was right. He did win fair and square.

And in that moment, I didn’t care that I’d lost.

“I gotta ask a favor.”

“You just won. You’re getting your date night and breakfast in bed. What more could you want?” I teased, tossing my stuff into my car.

“It’s um . . . I uh . . .” Tyler tripping over his words caught me off guard. I couldn’t think of a time I’d ever seen him like this. What was going on?

“Hey”—I brought my hands to his face—“what is it? I was totally joking. Of course, you can ask for a favor.”

“Can we go back to my place? Instead of yours?”

“Ooh,” I crooned.

“I know you’ve never been there, and—”

“Does this mean we’re gonna do something kinky? Are you taking me back to your sex dungeon? Do you have ared room?”

His laugh rushed forth on a burst of air. “I didn’t mean it like that. Not that I’m not down for it.” He shrugged. “I didn’t bring my shower leg. And, well . . . your bathroom isn’t really suitable for me to shower like I normally do.”

“Oh.”

“Not that your bathroom is bad or anything.”

“Sorry.” This was truly a palm to face moment. “I didn’t mean it like that. I just can’t believe we’ve never had this discussion before. I feel like a jerk.”

“Why?”

“Because I never asked. You’re so go-with-the-flow, and everything just comes naturally to you. I just assumed if you needed something, you’d let me know. I guess I didn’t think that . . . Jeeze. I’m a super dick.”

He shook his head telling me I was wrong. “Marisa, the only super dick, is right here,” he said, pointing to his substantial privates.

I couldn’t help but laugh. Tyler’s smile spread across his handsome face.

“Can we go now?” Tyler asked, rocking back and forth. “I could really use that shower. If you don’t mind coming over.”

“Lead the way,” I said, taking his proffered hand.

He gave my hand a squeeze which made me look up at him. “You down to fulfill one of my fantasies?”

“Uh, yeah! What is it?”

“I’ve been dying to get you off in the shower.”

If I were a cartoon character, my tongue would have fallen to the floor, I’d be panting, and my brain might have exploded. I’d wanted to do that too, but my shower was a one-person at a time standing shower. It didn’t allow for any extra bodies. Which totally sucked.

“I can’t wait,” I told him, my enthusiasm radiating not only in my words but all across my face.

I couldn’t believe my ineptitude regarding the shower situation. It wasn’t that I didn’t consider his needs, but as I had told Tyler, I never thought anything of it because he made everything so easy and natural. I was thankful he was so nonchalant about my incompetence. It was one more example that he didn’t judge me or make me feel stupid when he so easily could have.

I tried to dispel the insecurities I felt about my idiocy and focus on the one good thing that came out of this whole fiasco.
