She laughed. “I know.”

“So, you’re purposefully wearing a dress, knowing that we’re taking the bike?”

“Yep.” She bopped me on the nose. “After all, Sandman, you did say it would be really hot for me to wear a dress while riding your bike.”

I’d forgotten I said that. “It totally would be.”

“Then, let’s go,” she said, leading the way out.

Marisa and I were enjoying our conversation, looking out over the city from high atop a private area I knew of. It was part of a friend’s property, so I knew we had guaranteed privacy.

“Have I ever told you how much your voice turns me on?”

“Oh really?”

“Yep. It calls to me. Like a siren calling to a sailor at sea.”

“Interesting.”

“I think you need a nickname.”

“Ooh, like role play?” she crooned.

I shook my head, smiling. “You know, all the other ladies have call signs.”

“All what ladies?”

“The guys’ wives. Catherine, Ashton, Charlie, Gretchen, and Natalie.”

“All the other ladies are married to your friends.”

I shrugged and ignored the connection she was making. “Kitty, as you know, is Catherine. Ashton is . . . actually, I don’t know if she has a call sign. But Catherine calls her Ashypoo, and Quinn calls her Fragolina. Hmm, I’ll have to ask him about that.”

“And Charlie, Gretchen, and Natalie?”

“They are Princess, Jilted, and Sparkles. I know you really only know Catherine, but the other wives . . . well, they’re just as awesome.”

“Catherine says the same thing.”

“So, can I give you a call sign?”

“Mmm, Sandman. I don’t know, what’s it worth to you?” She was toying with me. I could tell in the way she used my call sign.

I evaded answering her and just simply said, “I think it’d be hot.”

Her brow lifted into a perfect arch on her beautifully bronzed face. “What is it? I have to approve. I don’t want to be named after an animal.”

“I was thinking it should be Siren. Or Sirena.”

She smiled at my attempt to pronounce the word correctly in Spanish. I failed miserably.

“I looked up mermaid in Spanish.”

“I like it.”

“Clearly, I have trouble saying it.”
