“A present.” A sexy smirk in place, the fingers of his free hand played with the strands of my loose hair. A wicked gleam flashed in his eyes as he awaited my response.

“It’s awfully big,” I said, taking another peek at it.

“I know.” I laughed at his arrogant remark. “Oh, you mean your gift. Eh, it’s just a little something.”

I hopped from foot to foot. “Do I have to wait until Christmas to open it?” I was excited to find out what was inside.

“Not at all.”

I grinned at him, then stole his cup and took a sip of his coffee. “Mmm. Okay, can I open it now?”

Sensing my excitement, he gestured for me to sit and then brought the box to me. “I hope you like it,” he said. I thought I could sense nervousness in his tone, but I brushed it off.

“I’m sure I will,” I said, looking at him before tearing into the paper to the treasure inside. “You didn’t!” I exclaimed when I ripped the top of the paper off.

He shrugged like it wasn’t a big deal. Then he smiled at my delight. Inside was a Keurig café style coffee, latte, and cappuccino maker. “It has a milk frother, too,” he said with a chuckle as I continued to destroy the wrapping paper. “I know it’s not as great as mine, but the one I have would take up your entire kitchen counter. I thought this would be more practical for you.”

“I can’t believe you did this.”

“Why?”

“Because I didn’t win the bet!”

“I knew you wanted one.” He shrugged. “I know it’s not romantic to give a lady an appliance, but I . . . well, I just hoped you would like it.”

“Are you kidding me! I love it! I love—it.” Holy hell, I almost made the greatest Freudian slip of my life. Hoping to hell he hadn’t noticed, I leaped into his arms and gave him a huge hug and kiss. “I love it, Tyler. Really, it’s really awesome.” I jumped up and retrieved the present I had for him. “Merry early Christmas,” I said, holding the bag out for him.

His eyebrows rose on his sexy face. “Hmm,” he said as he took it from me. He pulled out the tissue paper gingerly. Unlike me, he was taking his time opening his gift. It wasn’t much, especially in comparison to what he got me. But I really hoped he liked it.

His smile was huge as he looked at the side that readSandman’s Mug. When he looked at the other side, his eyebrows furrowed in confusion.

“Come on. You get it,” I said, then snorted. “SILF.” When he didn’t respond, I explained further. “You know what a MILF is, right?”

“Yeah, aMom I’d Like to Fuck.”

I was grinning from ear to ear like a woman totally smitten with the man in front of her. “Well, you’re a SILF. ASEAL I’d Like to Fuck.”

At that, Tyler’s laughter filled the room. He tackled me to the floor.

My chest was heaving at the desire flooding me with having Tyler on top of me. “I know it’s not much, but I thought you should have your own special mug here.”

“It’s great. I love it, Marisa.” He held it to his chest like I’d just given him something really special.

In a way I did. After all, this was something ofhisthat would stay atmyplace—a symbol of him “belonging” here and letting him in. I knew when I ordered it what I meant by it. But without saying it out loud, I hoped Tyler understood the meaning behind it too.

“Let’s go test these bad boys out,” Tyler said, grinning from ear to ear.

And with that, we were off to the kitchen.

For the rest of the day, I was left wondering if he got my underlying message behind the coffee mug. After all, it was just a mug, not a key to my apartment. Or my heart.
