“All done. I can't think anymore. My brain is mush.”

He rose from the couch and held out his hand. “Come with me.”

“Where are we going?”

“We're going to bed. We're both exhausted.”

It didn’t take long for them to get settled, and when they spooned together, he exhaled heavily and kissed her shoulder.

“That was a big sigh. Are you okay?”

“I’m fine, love.”

Not sure she believed him, she nudged him onto his back, crawled on top of him, and hovered over him, her face inches from his.

“I have ways of making you talk, you know.”

He smiled softly but remained silent as she gently but provocatively moved her body against his. He ran his hands down the length of her back until he reached her bottom, and then pulled her closer as he moved his hips up in a gentle thrust, rubbing against her.

One hand left her bottom and tangled in her hair, pulling her head toward his, closing the distance between them. He teased her top lip and then her bottom before he settled his mouth over hers to kiss her thoroughly.

“Will,” she murmured.

“Elizabeth,” he responded, mimicking herwe need to talktone perfectly.

“Are you sure there's nothing bothering you?”

“Yes.” She looked at him doubtfully, and he sighed. “Okay. This is probably going to sound incredibly corny, but I was just thinking about how perfect this weekend was, and how fortunate and grateful I am. I have you, Georgiana is doing so much better, business is great, I’m healthy and so happy... I’m a lucky man.”

Her eyes misted, and she smiled. “I had a wonderful weekend too. We’re both very lucky.” She kissed him again. “I love you.”

“I love you too.”

Sittingat her desk the next day, Elizabeth was busy playing catch-up at work, and she realized—in hindsight—that taking so many days off over the past two weeks wasnotconducive to working on a new project. With thoughts of the ACE Basin foremost in her mind, she was determined to prove herself competent on any project, no matter what was thrown at her.

She’d spoken to Bill this morning, and he seemed sure about the trip. The only detail to be settled were the dates, but that was trivial; she didn't care if they wanted her to go in the middle of winter. She’d be traveling with two other scientists from Woods Hole, and once there, they’d join a team already working at the estuary.

As one o'clock approached, her cell phone chimed, and she saw a text from Lydia.

Hey! Are you ignoring me?

Elizabeth tapped out her response. No, I was away and haven't had a chance to call

Where’d you go?

MV with Will. Birthday trip

Fun! Are you guys going tonight or what?

No, sorry

Please? Charlotte and George are going

Elizabeth wrinkled her nose. Can’t do it, lots of work to catch up on.

Okay. Next time
