Georgiana laughed. “Poor Will, reduced to being a taxi. Where's your car?”

“Still at the Bingleys’. I'll get it tomorrow. We’re going up to the house. Breakfast at nine?” Elizabeth pinched his shoulder. “Or ten? How about ten?”

“That works,” Georgiana said.

“Can you pick Mrs. R up, or should I?” Will had tried to convince Alice to stay with him, but she’d insisted on staying at a nearby inn, determined to give him some privacy.

“We'll pick her up, and bring her back here.” Georgiana grinned. “You and Elizabeth get to cook.”

They all said their good nights, and Will ambled up the lawn with Elizabeth still attached to his back. By the time they were settled in his room, it was well after midnight. She’d raided his dresser to find an old T-shirt, and they climbed into bed together. Will took a deep breath, guessing this would be a test of his self-control, and one look at Elizabeth’s mischievous expression confirmed it.

“Don't look at me like that,” he said, and waggled his finger. “You said you'd behave.”

Her grin widened. “I will.” She curled up against him and hooked one leg over both of his, resting her head on his shoulder, and then kissed his neck. “I miss this.”

He sighed and held her close. “I do too.”

“Did you have a good day?”

He nodded. “It was a lot of fun. Did you?”

“It was wonderful. Everything was perfect.”

His thoughts turned to the conversation he’d had with Mrs. Reynolds while they’d shared a dance. She’d boldly wondered whathiswedding would be like, and he’d teasingly told her not to get too far ahead of herself—or him. He’d told her he hadn’t ever really thought about it, but being in that chapel today, and looking at Elizabeth as she stood across from him… Ofcourseit had entered his mind. He’d thought about what it would be like to be standing there with her, saying those vows toherand hearing her say them back.

“Elizabeth?”

“Mm.”

“Do you…have you ever thought...?”

“Hmm?”

“Do you want to get married?”

She sat up quickly and stared down at him, eyes wide. “What?”

“No, not–not right now. That–that wasn't a proposal.”

She sighed and closed her eyes. “MyGod, you just gave me a heart attack.”

He frowned. “Why would–why would that give you a heart attack?”

She shook her head and laughed softly. “I'm sorry, I don’t mean it that way. It was just a surprise to hear you say that.”

He held her cheek, and his thumb stroked the smooth skin of her jaw. “I meant someday. Have you thought about it? I mean, is it what you want, eventually?”

“Is it what you want?”

He nodded but said nothing, just continued to stare into her luminous green eyes.

She turned to kiss his palm, covering his hand with one of hers, and nodded. “Me too. Someday. I want to get married. I want to have kids.”

He smiled widely. Kids. Wow.

“Why are you smiling?” she asked, even though she was grinning too.

He shrugged. “I don't know. I guess I just like the sound of that.”

She settled next to him again, and his arms encircled her. “I like the sound of it too.”
