“Why are you getting up?” He blinked rapidly. “And what the hell are those?”

She laughed and crawled on top of him. “I'm getting up to help my aunt, because I’m sure she’s in the kitchen already. And these are my favorite flannel pajamas. I never wear them at home because sleeping with you is like sleeping with a furnace.”

He brought his hands out from under the blankets and began to unbutton her top. “I don't smell anything cooking, so I think you should come back to bed.”

She slapped at his hands. “Uh-uh.”

He frowned. “Can I have a Thanksgiving kiss?”

“Oh, hold on.” She padded over to the dresser and came back with a card, kissed him sweetly then handing it to him. “Happy Thanksgiving.”

He took the envelope, but before opening it, he rose from the bed and walked to the dresser. He grabbed an envelope of his own and quickly trotted back to the bed and dove under the covers.

“Shit, it's cold.” He tugged on her hand. “Come back to bed and warm me up.”

“I can't. Jane's probably up already. We both want to help Aunt Dee.”

They opened their cards, both smiling as they read the verses, and laughed at how corny they were. They wished each other a Happy Thanksgiving, and spent a few sweet moments kissing and whispering words of endearment.

While the day seemed to pass slowly, Will’s anxiety grew at an alarming rate. They ate an early afternoon dinner, which Dee had arranged in order to help him carry out his plans for later in the day. Everything was delicious, and everyone helped to prepare something. When he saw the opportunity, he spoke privately with Dee to confirm some details.

“Everything is all set,” she said, and rubbed her hands together, her dark brown eyes lit with excitement. “I think you'll have everything you need for the night; you just need to get your things out to the car. I left some goodies for you, and Ed has an old friend of ours going in to light the fireplace in a little while.”

“Are you sure you don't mind me stealing off with Elizabeth for the night?”

She looked at him incredulously. “Of course not! We’re just as excited about this as you are. Well, maybe notjustas excited, but we're so happy. Lizzy's going to be thrilled. You enjoy your night there, and don't feel like you have to rush back in the morning. We have all weekend to see each other.”

He smiled. “Thanks, Dee. You and Ed have been such a huge help. I couldn't have done any of this without you.”

She patted his arm. “It's been our pleasure.”

He managed to sneak some of their belongings out to their rental car while Jane and Dee kept Elizabeth busy in the kitchen. They lingered a bit longer, enjoying a last glass of wine, and then Will pulled Elizabeth aside.

“Want to go for a ride?”

Her eyebrows rose. “Now?”

“Sure, why not?”

She glanced behind him at everyone seated comfortably in the cozy common area of the inn. “Everyone is relaxing. Why do you want to go somewhere now?”

He felt a flash of panic, as he hadn't anticipated having to convince her to leave. “I just thought we could go for a drive. The sun will be setting soon; there must be somewhere we can go to watch it.”

This made her smile, and inwardly, he breathed a huge sigh of relief. “I know just the place. Should we ask Jane and Charles to come with us?”

“No,” he answered quickly. “I'd like to be alone with you for a little while.”

She kissed him. “You're very sweet, do you know that?”

He shrugged, making her laugh, and she turned to Dee. “Would you mind if we went out for a bit?”

Will pulledup along the curb at the front of the house. His heart was hammering furiously, and he thought for sure Elizabeth would see his pulse jumping in his neck.

“I thought we were going to the beach,” she said.

“We still have a little time.”
