Will turned a light on over the kitchen sink and then turned on a small lamp that had been placed on the dining room floor before they made their way back into the living room. He encouraged her to sit with him in front of the fire, using the pillows to get comfortable on the floor. She sat between his legs, her back to his chest.

“So,” he said softly, and pressed a kiss to her cheek. “I know this isn't really a gift holiday, but I got you something anyway. Happy Thanksgiving.”

She turned around to face him. “Happy Thanksgiving.” The tears began again, cascading unchecked down her cheeks. “I–I didn't get you anything,” she said between sniffles. “Just a–a card. I got you a stupid card, and you gave me–you gave methis.”

He chuckled and wiped her tears with his thumbs. “Your card wasn't stupid, it was sweet. And I don't need anything. I have you, you're my gift. The gift that keeps on giving.”

She rolled her eyes, but laughed, and he kissed her nose.

“I just don't know what to say to you,” she said, looking into his eyes. “Thank you isn’t enough, but I can’t–I can’t put into words what I'm feeling right now. I'm still in disbelief that we're sitting inthisliving room, in front ofthisfireplace.” She paused. “How are we sitting in front of a fire? Who lit it?”

“Your uncle arranged all that. Your aunt came and set up this lovely air mattress yesterday, and a very kind friend came in and lit the fire about an hour ago.”

Her eyes widened. “My aunt and uncle knew?”

He nodded. “Your uncle has known from the beginning, but I'm not sure when he told Dee. He's been a huge help.”

“I can't believe it.”

She fell silent and stared into the fire, trying to figure out what she could say to him to make him understand what this meant to her, how astounded she was by this incredible gift, but the words escaped her.

“I don't know how to thank you,” she whispered. “I have no idea.”

He smiled. “Sure you do.”

“Will—”

“You know what to say, Lizzy. C'mon, say it.” He nudged her knee with his, making her smile.

“It's not enough.”

“Itisenough.”

She leaned forward until her lips were lightly pressed to his and finally whispered the words she knew he was waiting hear.

“Thanks, Will. It's lovely.” She kissed him lightly. “Happy Thanksgiving.”

He wrapped his arms around her, embracing her tightly. “Happy Thanksgiving, Lizzy.”
