“You're welcome.”

“What are you up to for the rest of the week?”

“I'm heading to Boston tomorrow, and I'll probably stay through Saturday morning. That’ll give me two full days in the office. I need to catch up on some things.” He paused. “Maybe we can get together Saturday night?”

“I'd like that. We have another game Friday afternoon, but other than that, I don't have much going on.”

“I really enjoyed watching you play. And I especially liked the tour of the park.”

Her cheeks warmed. “I liked it too. It was the best part of the evening, though the lobster roll was a close second.”

He laughed, then grew serious again. “I'm sorry I messed things up at the end. I have a tendency to think that my way is the best way…which isn't always the case.”

“I'm sorry for storming off. Truce?”

“Truce. Can I say something?”

“Sure.”

“You’re gorgeous when you're angry.”

“Oh. Um, thank you?” she responded, her cheeks heating further.

He laughed softly. “You're welcome. Can I call you tomorrow night?”

“Of course.”

“Okay, talk to you then.”

She hung up and sighed deeply. Despite their little tiff, or whatever it was, she’d enjoyed herself. She liked having someone there to cheer her on during the game.

Again, she thought of their walk to the park. The few kisses they’d shared previously had been soft, sweet, getting-to-know-you kisses. But today, her body had responded on a totally different level. She’d caught a glimpse of his passionate side, and had experienced an unmistakable pulse of desire—something she hadn't felt in a long time.

Her thoughts turned to the following day and what she was going to deal with at work. Brenda, the unofficial head of the office gossips, wasn’t likely to let the day pass without hunting her down like small prey. What had she called Will? ‘A divine man’?

Elizabeth smiled.Divine indeed.

Will parkedhis car and walked into the building that housed RJD’s offices. He exited the elevator on the eighteenth floor and smiled at the receptionist.

“Oh, Mr. Darcy! Good morning. I didn't expect to see you today.”

“Hello, Jennifer. Why wouldn't you expect to see me? It’s my company, isn’t it?”

He flashed a quick grin, showing that he was teasing, and continued down the hall to his office, whistling while he walked.

His secretary, Eleanor, was sitting at her desk and staring at her computer.

“Good morning, Ellie,” he called out, startling her.

“Well, good morning, Will! It's nice to have you back.”

Eleanor Davenport had worked for RJD Properties since Will was in high school. She’d been his father's secretary, and was now his. He’d been checking in with her by phone over the past five months, but it wasn't the same as walking through the doors in the morning and seeing her familiar face.

“It's nice to be back,” he said. “Well, right now it is. Talk to me at three o’clock this afternoon to see if I still feel the same way.”

He walked into his corner office, took off his suit jacket and hung it over the back of his chair. She promptly walked to his chair, picked up the jacket, and hung it on a hanger on the back of his door, all the while reviewing his schedule, which included a conference call with Richard and two other employees out in San Francisco at noon.
