“It wasn't pretty,” Elizabeth responded with a grimace. “At least, I've been told it wasn't pretty. I gave him a little shove, which made me lose my balance…which made me fall off the table. No big deal.”

Jane giggled. “The look on your face when you landed on your ass was priceless. Needless to say, we were escorted out.”

Elizabeth chuckled. “What a night, and I had the bruises to prove it.”

“We’re tame now,” Jane said, obviously holding back a smile. “And Lizzy gave up tequila.”

“I think I might be a little sorry about that,” Will murmured.

Elizabeth shook her head. “You shouldn’t be.”

He wiggled his eyebrows and succeeded in making her blush further, and then lightly caressed her cheek. “I hate to say it, but it’s getting late. I should probably go. What's the plan for tomorrow?”

“Well, we weren't sure what you guys would want to do, but we’d love to have you for dinner at Charles's place, if that’s okay,” Jane offered. “Or we could go out, if you'd rather do that.”

“I wouldn't mind staying in. What do you think?” Elizabeth asked Will.

“It's fine with me.”

Elizabeth rose from the floor and helped Jane carry the wine glasses into the kitchen. When she returned, she looped her arm through Will’s. “Come on, I’ll walk you out.”

They went outside to where Will's car was parked at the curb, and when she leaned back against it, he moved closer. His day’s growth of beard was shadowed in the soft glow from the streetlights, and she traced her fingers over his cheeks. His expression softened as his eyes closed and he exhaled heavily, clearly enjoying her touch. Her hands dropped to his shoulders and then his chest, before sliding down his arms and back up again. She stroked her thumbs along his jaw, and he finally opened his eyes.

All traces of teasing and laughter were gone as he lowered his mouth to hers. She deepened the kiss and he pressed against her, moving one hand to hold her head as their kisses grew more passionate. His other hand stroked down her cheek and along her jaw, then lower as his fingers traced the V-neck of her top, up and down, back and forth. He broke away from her mouth and moved his lips to her neck, working his way to her ear with open-mouthed kisses, making her shiver.

They were startled out of their romantic haze by a car full of teenagers who drove by whistling and whooping at them.

She dropped her head to his chest and laughed softly. “Well, that's embarrassing.”

He reversed their positions, leaning against the car, and tugged her close. “Hm. Maybe we should getinthe car.”

She noted the devilish smile on his lips, and her stomach flipped. “As tempting as that sounds, I think I'm safer out here.”

“Definitely.” He caught a piece of her hair in his hand and played with it for a moment, curling it around his fingers. “Do we still have a breakfast date tomorrow?”

“What would you say to a lunch date instead? Jane and I will probably be up late.”

“I'll pick you up at noon.”

“That sounds perfect.”

She kissed him again, and he groaned softly, then held his forehead to hers.

“Good night, Elizabeth.”

“Good night, Will. See you tomorrow.”
