“I leave Monday. I have an early flight out of Logan.”

His hand traced circles on her stomach, and she laced their fingers together. “How long will you be gone?”

“Five weeks.”

Her eyes widened and she sat up. “Five weeks? I thought you said it would be a quick trip! Five weeks is not quick!”

“I know, but five days is. I'll be back on Friday.”

She narrowed her eyes. “You're awful.”

He laughed and pulled her into his arms. “I was just trying to put it into perspective. I'll be back on Friday.”

“I think I can handle five days, though I'llprobablymiss you. A little.”

He grew serious. “I'll miss you very much, and I have no idea how I'll concentrate on anything when I'll be thinking of you constantly. Those five days will feel more like five hundred.”

She stroked his cheek and kissed him softly. “I'll miss you too. A lot. Just…promise me you’ll come back, okay?”

Her vulnerability struck him, and he wrapped her in his arms and held her close. “I promise. I won't be able to get back here fast enough.”
