After spending Monday afternoon hiking the beautiful trails of the Mashpee River Woodlands with Will—and using more of the film in her camera—Elizabeth had the best of intentions: go upstairs to his room, freshen up, get changed, and then be at her parents’ condo promptly at four, just like she’d promised Jane when they’d talked on the phone this morning.

But somewhere between freshening up and getting changed, her plan had gone off the rails—with a little help from Will’s mouth. And now, comfortably ensconced in his arms, she decided she didn't want to leave.

“That was amazing.Youare amazing,” he said, and smiled down at her. “And beautiful, and sexy, and delicious.”

She felt her face redden, and he chuckled and pulled her close.

“You're okay?”

She nodded and kissed him. “Yes. Are you going to ask me that every time we have sex?”

“No, but…this time was different.”

A quick vision of him kissing his way down her stomach—and lower—flickered through her mind, and her skin heated further. “It was amazing, and I loved it. You are a man of many talents.”

“I aim to please.”

She grinned. “Your aim is very good. Right on target.”

He held her close, stroking her back, and his voice was a low rumble. “I hate to say it, but we should get ready.”

“No. We should just take a nap.”

“I would love to, but your parents will be upset if we don't show up. Not to mention Jane and Charles.”

“Ugh. You're not supposed to talk me into gettingup, you're supposed to talk me into stayinghere.”

He chuckled. “My only thought, since we got back from the hike, was to talk you out of your clothes and into my bed. My job is done.”

She lifted her head to look at him, mouth agape. “You are unbelievable.”

He flipped her onto her back and pinned her to the bed as she giggled. “I would like nothing more—wouldlovenothing more—than to keep you here with me until you had to go to work tomorrow. You would be my very own prisoner.” He lowered his lips to hers and kissed her slowly. “However, duty calls.”

“I know.” She looked at him tenderly and stroked his cheek, then ran her thumb across his lips. “I hope you're ready for this. I’m not even sureI’mready.”

“What’s the big deal? Are you trying to keep me hidden?”

“No, I’m trying to keep you safe! You have no idea what my mother can be like.”

“I’m pretty sure I can handle her.” He kissed her thumb. “And right now, I’m ready for anything.”

They parkedin front of her parents’ condominium—twenty minutes late—and held hands as they walked to the door. Elizabeth felt like everyone would look at her and knowexactlywhat she’d been up to for the past hour and a half, as if it was written all over her face, and said as much to Will.

“Hm. Youarea little flushed,” he said. “I think you're glowing.”

She looked him over pointedly. “You look pretty flustered yourself.”

“That's because I am.” He grinned and squeezed her fingers as they reached the front step. “Just remember, if they figure out what you've been doing, your father will very quickly realize I'm the one you've been doing it with.”

She burst out laughing, and just as she kissed him, the door swung wide to reveal her father. David Bennet’s eyes were a vivid green like his middle daughter’s, and he was tall, with a full head of silver hair.

“Hello, Daughter. I thought I heard you out here.” He smiled and turned his twinkling eyes to Will. “Is this the young man your mother has been waitingforeverto meet?”

“Hi, Dad.” Elizabeth kissed her father's cheek. “Yes, this is him, and it hasn't been forever. Can we come in?”
