Elizabeth ignored her and turned to her father. “Bye, Dad.”

“Don't mind your mother, Lizzy,” he said quietly. “Go to the pub and have a good time.”

They said their goodbyes and were out the door, agreeing to meet Jane and Charles in half an hour, which gave them time to pick up Georgie.

Will opened the car door for Elizabeth, then walked around and slid in behind the wheel, and she felt his eyes on her as she stared out the windshield.

“Hey,” he said. “You okay?”

She nodded. “What did you talk about with her?”

He shrugged. “Everything went in one ear and out the other. None of it matters.”

“She just...she doesn't have a filter.” She turned to him and forced a small smile. “Jane hates when she compares us. It drives her crazy.”

He frowned. “Well, it’s true… Sadly, you'll never have Jane's figure.”

Her jaw dropped but she smiled, recognizing the tease. “Fitzwilliam Darcy!”

He laughed and pulled her as close as he could over the center console. “I. Love. Your. Figure,” he said, punctuating each word with a kiss. “Especially when it's on top ofmyfigure.”

She smiled against his lips. “I think I remember you mentioning that this afternoon.”

“I was hoping I'd made myself clear.”

“Very clear.” She kissed him again and sat back, gazing into his eyes and feeling better already. “Thank you.”

“My pleasure.”
