Survey said no.

He grinned into the mirror from behind me and twirled me around by the belt loops of my denim skirt. “I rather like this little number.”

“I think the last time I wore this was in high school.”

He cupped my butt. “And look at that, I bet your ass is just as perky as it was when you were eighteen.”

“Perv.”

He lowered his mouth to my neck. “For you, every day.”

I wasn’t sure what to do with this more cheerful Ransom. Especially when everything was still in limbo. Part of me wanted to grab onto the happy moments too. I deserved them even if my life was utter chaos.

But hey, that was also my nickname for a reason. I probably should just embrace my reality.

Minus being Tased. I shivered. I hoped like hell I never had to deal with that again.

I laughed as he brushed his beard over my neck. “I’m going to miss the beard.”

“Yeah?” He itched his neck. “I don’t usually let it go this long. Rach will definitely want me clean-shaven for pictures.”

I tugged lightly at the longer bristles. “Well, maybe a little shadow.”

His smile was a bright slash of teeth in the dark beard. “Deal.” He kissed me hard, then he let me go. “Let’s get this done.”

When we got downstairs, we fed Midnight and let him go outside to roam. I don’t know what he was doing in the trees behind Ransom’s place, but he was always going over there.

Ransom checked the camera feeds from Aidan’s crazy control center. They’d tucked the monitors and scary-looking board into the corner of the kitchen on one of Ransom’s finished pieces.

“Anything?”

“I’ll review the feed more closely when we get back, but it looks like it didn’t pick up anything hinky overnight.”

I wasn’t sure if that was a good thing or not. Hopefully, it was, unless the camera just hadn’t captured anything. This asshole sure seemed comfortable with being stealthy.

And I wasn’t going to overanalyze that right now.

Ransom ushered me outside and locked up behind us. The truck was still parked in front of the garage instead of under the carport. He opened the driver’s side door, but instead of getting in, he reached under the seat.

I swallowed as he pulled out his gun and tucked it in his waistband at his lower back.

“You’re not taking that with us, are you?”

“Yep.”

“Can you at least you leave it in the holster or whatever?”

“Nope.” He slammed the door. “We’re not taking the truck.” He led me toward the back of his garage. A car was tucked under a cover.

“What’s this?”

“Well, now that we know this jackass can kill the electrical components in my Gladiator, I’m not taking any chances.” He whipped the cover off a gleaming muscle car in the darkest blue I’d ever seen.

“Whoa.”

“Yeah. I haven’t driven her for a while.”

I arched a brow.“Her?”Not that I could say anything since my Santa Fe was named Lola, but it seemed like such a cheeky thing to do. Not like the Ransom I’d thought I knew.
