December grinned at Chaos. “You should have seen me fitting the rather large construction worker who is getting married soon. Lucky nearly required two suits sewn together.”

Chaos came up beside me, bumping me lightly. “I didn’t know they grew Jason Momoa-types in this town. Should you relocate?”

I rolled my eyes. As if I’d ever grow my hair like his.

You might if Chaos suggested it.

Still no.

“I just need to set up an account and we can go.”

“I took care of it.” My voice was just this side of brusque. And not because severe orgasm denial was affecting my normally winsome personality.

She narrowed her eyes. “Pardon me?”

I snatched back my card from the counter. “I told her to put it on my bill.”

“I’m not your arm candy, pal.”

“No one said you were, Chaos.”

She pointed a finger at me. “Don’t ‘Chaos’ me right now.”

I cupped her finger and lowered her hand. “It’s a gift.”

A growl came out of her chest. “Dirty pool.”

I laughed. “I think we like darts more.”

She drilled her finger into my side. “Fine. I’ll let you—this time.” Her attention went to December. “I’ll be back for that project we talked about. Can I have this dress today? The rest you can sprinkle your magic on.”

My gut clenched at the familiar slinky dress.

“Does it need any alterations?”

“No,” I said gruffly.

Chaos brightened. “Fits great. Oh, and this sweater. I couldn’t take it off.”

December’s lips twitched. “We’ll get you all rung up.”

Twenty minutes later, Chaos left the shop swinging a bag with the same beachy tone as the driftwood accents in the store. She wore a wine-colored sweater that dipped off her shoulders, accentuating the fact that she probably wasn’t wearing a damn bra.

She’d taken her braids out while in the dressing room, leaving her hair a little wavy and wild around her shoulders. Once we stepped out on the sidewalk, the spring breeze lifted it and tossed it everywhere.

Christ, she was beautiful.

She turned back to me and grabbed my hand, dragging me across the road. “I need a drink. Shopping is thirsty work.”

There was a small wine bar on the corner with a sandwich board outside suggesting wine slushies were on sale.

While they didn’t interest me, I had a sneaking suspicion who just might be onboard for those.

“Chaos, we gotta get to Clay’s.”

“We can do two things at once.”

“Pretty sure wine is not on the to-do list.”
