Aunt Laverne frowned. “No?”

My heart raced. “I just mean Ransom can go get it.”

“Okay. It is a pretty big box.”

Ransom came forward, his brow furrowed. “What?”

He always seemed to know when I needed him. I wrapped my arms around my middle. “There’s a box for me.”

Every line of his face hardened in an instant. “Where?”

My aunt wrapped her arm around my shoulders. “Is there something wrong?”

“Just dealing with a mail problem. My packages are getting sent all over.”

She frowned, but she didn’t say anything else. “I’ll show you where it is.”

We went into the lodge located just beyond the bakery. The sweet scent of apple blossoms drifted through the lobby. A large arrangement of urns filled with clippings flanked the sign-in desk.

Ransom touched my lower back, letting me know he was right beside me. As always. “Relax.”

Like that was going to happen.

Why did this person keep sending me packages? We hadn’t even opened the other two. We’d been so tired and then distracted that they were still sitting in the back of the truck.

It wasn’t a game and I’d been ignoring everything for far too long. And it wasn’t stopping. If anything, the number of deliveries was increasing.

Aunt Laverne led us to the storage room and pointed to the second shelf. The box was wide and shallow. Not nearly as bulky as the ones from before.

I didn’t see the usual logo. Ransom stepped in front of me and lifted the box. It was obviously lighter than the ones I’d gotten before.

“Should I expect more until you get a regular address?”

I tried not to shudder. God, I hoped not. But if the recent past was any indication…

I nodded. “If you get more, let me know. I usually get things from my PO Box. So, hopefully, that shouldn’t be a problem in the future. I’ll have to get a new one now that I’m not in Brooklyn.”

Suddenly, a list of mundane business tasks unfurled. I’d need to update my address with my lawyer and find a new PO Box that could handle all the mail I had to deal with. Let alone the forwarding addresses. And to where.

I didn’t actuallyhavemy own place. I couldn’t crash with people indefinitely.

Especially people I’d been halfway naked with.

“It’s fine, sweetheart. We don’t mind.” My aunt touched my arm, dragging me back to the present.

I nodded. “Thanks. Let me know if anything else shows up. We’re going to head up to Clay and Rachel’s.”

“Give them a hug for me.” Aunt Laverne gathered me close into a hard hug. “Just like this one.”

I hugged her back, taking an extra minute to draw in her vanilla scent.

Reluctantly letting me go, she rubbed my arms. “It’s really good to have you home.”

I hadn’t realized just how much I needed to be back until then. “I missed you guys.”

“Then I expect to see you every day.”

“You’ll be so annoyed with me and my camera. You sure you want to open that door?”
