I shrug. “I come here with my roommate sometimes.”

“No, not here… Midtown. Earlier this week. A coffee shop there.”

“Oh. I just started a new job in that area,” I explain.

“I knew it.” Logan grins. “I always remember a pretty face.”

I roll my eyes.

“Too much?” he laughs. “It’s the God’s honest truth. So how’s the new job going?”

“Fine,” I lie.

“Ouch. That bad?”

“No… I just… My boss is a lot to handle, that’s all,” I find myself confiding. Logan’s drinks arrive, and he takes a sip, looking open and curious and not Caleb Sterling.

“You have my sympathies. Those CEO billionaires are all the same. So, what does the bastard have you doing?”

I pause. Since when did I mention my boss was a CEO billionaire?

In fact… In a city of millions, what are the odds this guy sees me getting coffee then shows up here when I’m out for a drink?

I get down from my stool. “I have to go,” I say.

“So soon?” Logan looks disappointed. “Why don’t I get your number? I’d love to take you to dinner sometime.”

“No thanks.”

I hightail it away from him and grab Kelsey. “We need to go.”

“Already?” she looks behind me. “What was that all about?”

“I don’t know. That guy was a little intense. Asking questions about my job...”

“Really? But he was so hot!”

I shuttle her toward the doors. “He was, but that doesn’t mean he can’t be a stalker.”

When we get back to the apartment, I find Caleb’s town car parked at the curb.

My heart drops.

But he’s not there. It’s just his driver waiting—for me. “Caleb Sterling wants to meet you for dinner. I’m under instructions to bring you there.”

Kelsey grins. “Ooh, fancy.”

“Not fancy,” I correct her, annoyed. “Presumptuous.” I turn to him. “Tell Caleb Sterling thanks, but no thanks. I’ll be staying home tonight.”

I march inside, fuming.

So he sends his driver to fetch me? He’s too important to take the time out of his day to come see me on his own? And he expects me to drop everything and rush to his side at a moment’s notice?

I don’t think so.

That will show him I’m not so easy to boss around. And that he can’t buy my forgiveness with a bunch of roses—like all the other girls.

My pride lasts as long as it takes for my phone to light up with a text.
