“Olivia and the lawyers.”

I wince at the reminder of the trouble I brought to his door. Yet another threat that Caleb has to deal with, as if he doesn’t already have enough of his plate.

“I thought that everything was simmering down, on that front?” At least, Caleb had made it seem that way.

She shrugs. “Apparently not.” She points to my desk. “I have a huge pile of filing for you to do.”

I catch sight of the Leaning Tower of Paper, about to fall off my desk. “Great.”

As I’m about to get to work, the door swings open. Tornado Olivia stands there in a cream silk suit, surveying the office like it already belongs to her.

“You’re still here?” She smirks at me. “For a paranoid man, I would have thought Caleb would know better than to keep a traitor around. Thanks again for that flash drive,” she adds. “It’s just one more piece of evidence for the case that my lawyers are building against him." She glances back at Caleb. "I hope your little vacation was worth it.”

She motions for her team of suits to follow her. Vicki stands, arms folded in her way. For a second, I think Olivia might try to spear her with her umbrella. Then she stalks away.

Must’ve been a lovely meeting.

After the coast is clear, I peer inside his office. Caleb looks tired, slumped behind his desk. “Everything okay?” I ask, cautious.

He straightens. “Just a little jet lagged,” he says smoothly. “Nothing I can’t handle.”

I pause. The walls seem to be back up again, but I ache to reassure him somehow.

“Olivia doesn’t give up, does she?” I say, coming closer.

Caleb gives a grim smile.

“No. While we were in Italy, she started approaching board members, lining them up on her side. Even if they can’t prove any criminal activity, they could still get rid of me with a vote of no confidence.”

My heart falls.

“So she’s still threatening to take over the company.”

“And sell it off to Sebastian Wolfe.” Caleb finishes for me. He rakes a hand through his hair, sighing.

“You’ll figure it out,” I tell him, trying to reassure. “And if there’s anything I can do to help, you know, you only have to ask.”

Caleb gives me a smoldering smile at that. “Well, now that you mention it, there is something I want from you…”

“Oh, really?” I reply, flirty.

He reaches into his desk and pulls out a keycard. He pushes it over to me. “Take this.”

“What is it?”

He leans forward, hands laced in front of him. “The key to my penthouse.”

My eyes bug out. “You want me to…”

No, I can’t say it. Because it’s absolutely insane. But it sounds like he actually wants me to… Move in with him?

But Caleb just nods. “You need a place, don’t you? You can’t sleep on Mara’s couch forever.”

I shouldn’t be surprised he knows the details of my not-so-ideal living situation. Caleb Sterling is the king of his domain.

“I’ll be fine,” I say carefully. “Besides… You’re offering this to me now, but what about next week? Hell, even tomorrow. You’ve changed your tune often enough.”

He winces. “I guess I deserve that.” Caleb nods. “But what happened in Italy… I don’t want it to stay there. I know things have been rocky for the past few weeks—
