“Did anyone leave? Take one of the vehicles.”

“No, no.”

“Are you sure?” She looked at him.

“Yeah, I’ve been up most of the night. Unless someone climbed out the window.”

“There’s a car coming down the road. Go wake up Nash and Luca. I’ll get the others.” She went back in.

Nothing moved in the distance, and the only sounds were played by the wind.

Reese went to Luca and Nash’s room and knocked on the door. “You need to wake up. Seung says there’s a car—”

The door opened. A very nude Nash Kelli glared down at Reese.

“Uh.” Reese took a few steps back. “There’s a…”

“I don’t hear any cars.”

“Seung said…”

Feet stomped the upstairs floor. Johnathan appeared first with his shirt in hand, followed by Seung’s betas who buttoned their pants.

“Nash.” Seung walked over. “You need to get Luca. Grab what you can.”

“There are no vehicles,” Nash said.

“Yes, there are.”

“If there were, I’d hear them before you.”

“I didn’t hear them. My wolf did. It's been patrolling about fifty miles out.”

“How many?”

“I don’t know. My wolf can’t see them yet, so neither can I.”

Nox growled. “You better be right.” He shut the door.

“He’s a ray of sunshine in the morning.” Seung shook her head and headed back to the front door.

Reese followed her. “Does your wolf actually hear?”

“What do you mean?”

“With ears like normal animals or some other way.”

She stopped. “What other way is there to hear?”

Reese waved his hands. “A tympanum. You see that in moths like the looper moth. It’s located on their abdomens. Then there are katydids that have auditory receptors on their knees and—”

“Ears.” Seung squinted at him. “Just like normal animals.”

“How many miles away did you say it was?”

“Fifty miles.”

“Is that the maximum range or minimum?”
