“What? Who is Jaden?” she asks, looking genuinely taken aback.

“The ATF agent you were speaking to the first week you were here. I know what your plan is, Cambria. You can stop pretending now,” I reply angrily. “And if he comes back, I’m going to kill him right in front of you. I’ll make sure you never sleep for another second of your life.”

She steps back, her face pale against the contrast of her makeup.

“Yeah, I’ll gut that motherfucker in front of you. How’s that sound, babe?” I continue, gaining a sick sense of empowerment from her horrified expression.

She turns to walk away, covering her face as curious patrons begin to crowd us.

“Oh, and by the way, your brother was a snake too. He tried ruining my business too, so I know it runs in the family.”

At first, she stops in her tracks.

Then, she turns around and spikes her glass right at my head.

She just narrowly misses, and I hear the sound of the glass whirring against my ear before it crashes against the concrete pillar behind me.

I might be calm on the outside, but my heart is racing.
