Lesley nodded. “I understand. I can see the allure.”

Antony spun her back around, making her giggle, and they walked hand in hand back to his car. He didn’t know how she was going to react to the next part of his plan, but he had a feeling she’d enjoy it. “We should get going. I don’t want to miss this next part,” he said.

Fifteen minutes, twenty miles, and a few turns later, and Antony slowed the car to a stop. Lesley was looking around, confused, and followed him as he got out. He grabbed a small bag from the backseat and rummaged around in it. Seconds later, he’d placed the Bluetooth speaker on the hood of the car and turned it on.

Lesley had walked a few yards off and was staring up at the night sky. Antony sat back and watched her face, illuminated by nothing but starlight and the faintest glow of orange from the horizon.

She turned to him and smiled, her eyes lit up with wonder. “This is amazing.”

He smiled. “Yes. It is.” He tapped on the face of his phone and soft instrumental music carried out over the top of the hill.

She threw back her head and laughed, throaty and full. “You’re a smooth one, Ramos,” she said.

He was silent as he held out his hand to her, gently pulling her toward him when she grasped it. They danced in silence for a few long moments, bodies melded together. He whispered, “Never brought anyone out here, either.”

Lesley pulled back and met his gaze. “No?”

He ran his hand up and down her back, fingertips rubbing over the cabling of her sweater. “Nope. This is where I come to escape.”

He spun her around, giving her a full view of the desert night over his shoulder, and watched her face as she took it all in. The stars floated by in her eyes, and her lips were parted in awe at the sight of the Milky Way streaking across the sky.

“You’re staring,” she whispered, glancing at him out of the corner of her eye.

“Yes.”

She tipped her head up, slightly, in unconscious invitation. Antony didn’t need to be asked twice. He slowly dipped his head down toward hers, watching as her eyelids fluttered closed, her long lashes casting faint shadows that blended with the fainter smile lines that had charmed him all evening.

His lips brushed against hers, lightly, before settling gently in place for a lingering kiss. Her arms wound around his waist, and he felt her palms smooth up his back, warm and firm. He pressed his lips against hers again, opened slightly, questioning. She answered by parting her lips against his and sweeping the tip of her tongue along his bottom lip.

Antony ran one of his hands up her back to her nape and buried his fingers in her hair there, pressing firmly against her skull. His other hand held her in place, locked against the small of her back. She tasted faintly of the honey they’d poured on their sopaipillas at dinner, and her scent, a rich but faint amber blend, clouded his brain. She moaned softly against his mouth, and when she started nibbling at his lower lip, he couldn’t think much more.

He answered with a groan and moved closer to her, walking her backwards until she bumped against the door of the car. She gasped and when he felt her short nails dig into his skin, he pressed against her. She sucked on the tip of his tongue, and he swore he heard the blood rush out of his head. He grasped her head with both of his hands, holding her in place while their tongues moved against each other.

Antony broke away from her mouth, sweeping his lips across her cheek, and as he did, she ran her hands down to his waist, moving her fingers under his jacket to lightly stroke the area just above his belt. She ground against him slightly and he gave a low groan.

Too much. Too fast.

He pulled back, placed his hands on the top edge of the car, and rested his forehead against hers. Her eyes were wild, matching his in their intensity. It would be a matter of seconds and he could have her stripped bare for him and judging by the pulse pounding in her neck and her heavy breathing, she would be an enthusiastic partner.

No. Not like this.

“Good Lord, woman,” he said, his voice deep and rough. “I’m burning up here.”

Lesley responded with a breathy laugh. “Yeah,” she said, exhaling sharply. “That uh—”

“Escalated quickly?”

“Mmhmm.” She ran her hands up his chest and over his neck until her palms were cupping his jaw. He closed his eyes and leaned into her touch. She kissed him softly. “I wasn’t ready for that,” she said. She tipped her head backward slightly until they were eye to eye. “You, Antony, are an amazing kisser.”

He smiled and leaned toward her, sweeping the tip of his tongue over her lips until she responded by tugging his head close. He pushed against her again, feeling her body yield to his, and it was only by force of will that he kept his hands on the car.

Antony broke the kiss and pushed back away from Lesley. “Only as good as my partner,” he said, reaching out to stroke his finger along her bottom lip. “And she is fucking fantastic.”

“So, I take it we’re not going to finish our dance again,” Lesley said, grinning at him.

He laughed. “That kind of dancing isn’t really what’s going through my head right now. Or yours, I think.” He shook his head. “No. I’m a whole lot spun up right now, and as much as I don’t want to, we should probably head back.”

“Such a gentleman,” Lesley teased.
