Smith walked into view. “I thought I heard voices.” He looked at the two women. “Sorry for interrupting.” With a smirk, he walked out of view. They heard him shuffling papers near the printer.

Stina sneered at his back. “Lunch?”

“Yes. Lunch.”

“I called and ordered a pizza for us,” Stina said as they walked across the parking lot. “Let’s go back to my place.”

Lesley looked across the lot at her car. She saw Smith’s car two down from hers. He was behind the wheel. “Sounds good to me.”

“I don’t like how he’s lurking around, Les. Has he been like this all along?”

“Here and there. He’s always pushed limits, but he’s ramped things up since the night we all went out.”

“You’re not worried?”

“Not really. I’ve been keeping my distance after that stunt the other day. I think any future team building events need to be during the day. Like volleyball or something.”

“I vote dodgeball. He can be on one team, and we’ll be on the other.”

“Okay. Spill it.” Stina plopped the box onto the coffee table and opened it.

Lesley laughed. “I’m surprised you didn’t start grilling me once we were in the car.”

“Didn’t want the distraction. Out with it! You get some?”

Lesley choked on her drink. “So damned delicate. Yes. I got some. A lot, actually.”

“Was he there all weekend? I didn’t hear from you.”

“He had to leave for a couple hours on Saturday morning, but yes. He left last night.” Lesley chewed on her slice. “Found out he was engaged a few years ago.”

“What?”

“In Texas. Except she lives here now. She showed up at the museum.”

Stina whistled. “How’d that play out? You never mentioned her.”

“I didn’t know about her until then. I covered, but she’s a piece of work. Zeroed right in on Ant.”

“Maybe we can introduce her to Smith.”

Lesley laughed. “That’d be something.” She shook her head. “I’m not going to worry about her until I have to worry about her, and I’m not worried about Antony when it comes to her. She obliterated that bridge when she left him.”

Stina leaned back against the chair. “Soooo.” She moved her eyebrows up and down a few times. “Dish, woman.”

Lesley grinned. “PT was fun this morning. I haven’t worked out my inner thighs in a long time.”

“Lucky you. Only thing getting a workout in my life is the Hitachi.”

Lesley choked on her drink. “Nothing happen with that guy a couple weeks ago?”

“Not once I found out he was a damn lieutenant.”

“No shit? How’d you find out?”

“At dinner. We’re sitting there, all cozy. Things getting warmer, and up comes one of his classmates.” Stina rolled her eyes. “I swear, I’m gonna just start asking for ID as soon as they say hi. ID and unit.”
