“She gives me the chills,” Cat whispered. “I mean not like Blair does with her dreams, but Camile is just kind of wise with things and now that we know she does those readings and such, or did, exciting and scary at the same time.”

“This from the person who wants to get her palm read. I thought you’d feed right into it.”

“I do feed into it,” Cat said. “That doesn’t mean she doesn’t give me the chills. What do you think she means by the truth coming out in the end?”

“No clue,” she lied while she cleaned her station.

“Yeah. It could mean anything. She is all about leaving little breadcrumbs to make us all think.”

“All I’m thinking about now is my next appointment,” she said.

“And lunch. Jenna wants to order out today. She said she’d pick it up. What are you in the mood for?” Cat asked.

“I want a salad. I don’t care where you go but a salad is fine for me,” she said.

“I’ll let Jenna know. So...when is your next date with Brent?”

She knew Cat wasn’t going to let this drop. “I’m not sure. It’s Labor Day weekend coming up and we haven’t made any plans. He might have something going on for all I know.”

“Hopefully that something is with you and involves a bed.”

Vivian laughed. She hoped so too but wasn’t going to admit that.

Waited Long Enough

Brent was leaving the cafe Wednesday afternoon where he’d met Vivian for lunch. He wasn’t about to go pick her up at her shop. He’d already been told more than once the girls were always asking about him and them as a couple.

He wasn’t ready to be the center of attention. Or in this case, the only testosterone in a building full of estrogen and they were looking at him like he was the chocolate they all needed at a certain time of the month.

And if he’d ever voiced that thought around his sister, she would have kicked his butt, but he knew it was true. When Maureen and her friends were all together, he’d walk in the house and they’d attack him at once in their attempt to embarrass him.

“No kiss?” Vivian said to him when they got to her car in the parking lot.

“Do you want people to see us?” he asked, reaching for her hand to pull her closer. He felt like a kid in the schoolyard during lunch trying to sneak any minute he could before the bell rang.

“I’m sure plenty saw us on Friday night. A few of the shop’s clients were in there.”

“Oh,” he said. “No one came up to talk to you.”

“Not everyone does. They were being respectful more than anything, I’m sure.”

He leaned in and kissed her on the lips. “There is a respectful kiss then. And thanks for asking me to lunch.”

“I don’t normally have this much of a break, but I did today. Hopefully Sammie didn’t leave you too big of a mess this time.”

“I took care of that,” he said.

“How so?”

“I got a crate. She likes going in there to lie down while I’m working on and off so I don’t think she thought it was a punishment.”

“Smart. I pictured you as more the type to get a camera to watch her in the house while you were gone.”

“No,” he said. He’d never have anything store bought or pedestrian that someone could easily hack into his house.

Everything was secure and would be. He had two internet lines going to his house. One for personal use that anyone could see if they wanted even if he did make it secure. One that was camouflaged as something else for work.
