Prologue

~Reese~

“Fuck,” the beta squeals as she grips tightly to the bars of my cell. “Alpha.”

“Take it,” I grind out as I piston my cock into her from behind with all the savage abandon I can muster. “This is why you came here, right? You wanted my fucking knot?”

“Yes, Alpha,” she pants.

I snarl as I ram into her all the harder. I’m a dangerous animal; a fiend, and she’s here for that danger.

The woman’s khaki trousers slide lower over her knees as she moans, pushing her ass back against me. Her cunt is sopping, though her smell is cloyingly sweet—not mine. My precum is soaking her, prepping her for my knot. I don’t know her name, but I don’t need to. I don’t want to.

“Bite me, Alpha, please, bite me,” she whimpers.

“No chance in hell of that,” I murmur in her ear, as I fist her hair in my hand. She doesn’t really want it anyway. A pack bite from a jailbird whore like me? No chance. It’s just dirty talk, and we both know it.

The prison is still and quiet; there’s no other sound but her cries of need as I tunnel into her cunt. I reach around and pinch her clit until she shatters around me, gripping me tight. The smell of her rolls over me. It’s not as strong as an omega scent would be, but her arousal makes it thicker. Some kind of floral shit, all chemicals and perfume. It makes my stomach tense.

Wrong, something inside me said. Not for us. But I clench my jaw and ignore it, grabbing her hard and pumping faster until my knot slides into place inside her.

“Shit,” she hisses, arching her back. “They said you were the best, but I had no idea.”

I grit my teeth as the urge to pull away takes hold. I know what ‘they’ say about me. What they say I’m good for. So I grip the bars on either side of her and rock forward, fucking her with my knot. I cum as she shudders, juices dripping out of her as I keep moving, keep pumping, until finally we both go limp, and my knot deflates enough for me to slip free.

I groan and turn away, catching my breath. I can hear the prison guard pulling up her pants and buckling her belt. When I glance over at her, she’s zipping up her fly with a satisfied smirk on her face. Her weak beta smell is coated in alpha now, which seems to suit her just fine.

“Nice work,” she says as she bangs on the bars with her nightstick. It slides open to let her out. She sticks the nightstick back in her holster, her dull eyes looking me up and down. “I’ll be back for another round, no question about that. You still got five years on your sentence, don’t you?”

“Yeah.”

“Good. Feral alpha like you shouldn’t be on the streets. Plus, you’re valuable in here.” She winks at me. “Still, better be careful or someone’ll find a way to keep you here even longer.”

She gives me a happy smirk as she steps out of my cell and slams the barred door closed again.

She turns to face me, breathing deeply. Her body is relaxed after several very intense orgasms. I wish that were possible for me. I’m more wound up than ever, feeling like a piece of meat at auction.

But I just growl at her, lunging forward as if I’m going to leap through the bars at her. She chuckles and shakes her head as if she enjoys my feral nature. Shedoesenjoy it. They all do. I know how to make them happy. I know what makes them smile. That’s what’s kept me alive and well all these years, after all.

“See you soon, Alpha,” she says, and then she walks away, twirling her weapon and whistling as she leaves me alone in the darkness.

Chapter One

~Haven~

I pull my rolly suitcase along the sidewalk, counting my breaths. One step, one breath.I can do this. Mantras usually help me, but today, they’re not quite getting me there. It’s the middle of the day, and it’s a hot one. I smooth a sweaty hand down the side of my dress. Of course it’s wrinkled. I don’t know how it got wrinkled between my closet and here, but it did, and I look like a mess, per usual.

You’re beautiful, sweetheart, my father’s voice croaks in my mind.

My mother’s voice sounds in agreement. And never let anyone tell you different, she adds.

But that’s not how the world works. My parents always thought there was something special about me, but it was just because they loved me. In truth, I’m far from special. The only thing I have going for me is that I’m an omega.

Even that’s not very impressive if you think about it. When I revealed as an omega at eighteen, I thought it would mean a pack that would love me forever… it didn’t take long for me to find out that all it really meant was a bunch of alphas leering at me, telling me that I smelled nice enough, but I wasn’t quite right for them.

Of course, I also didn’t have the money or the prestige to buy my way into the omega ballrooms that would have helped me get a decent pack.

I guess I should be grateful. Being an omega was enough to grant me entry in theOmega Girlslottery. Just for entering, I got a huge payout, and that meant I could afford to take care of my family for as long as they needed me. The lady at the recruitment center told me there was only a one-in-twenty chance I would be called to participate in the show… and even then, she said, wrinkling her nose as she looked at my less-than-fashionable outfit, they would probably let me go once they met with me in person.
