“Maybe,” I say quietly. “We’ll see.”

The rest of the confessional is about my dream pack; the types of romantic partners I prefer. Since I never imagined getting to choose a pack of my own, I don’t have much to say about it. And it’s hard not to describe Reese and Arlo when I think about what I want.

I’m still contemplating everything when I come back to the omega suite. As I step through the door, the smell of nail polish hits my nose. Beatrice and Randy are sitting on the white leather couch, painting their toenails without any concern for the stains and smudges they’re leaving behind.

“Hey there, new girl,” says Randy as I close the door. “How was your first confessional?”

“She had Jenn, so I assume she opened up without even realizing it,” Beatrice says without looking up.

Randy pats the seat next to him, snapping his gum as he looks me over with a gleam of mischief in his eyes. “Did you cry?”

“No,” I reply. I sit down next to him, surprised when he grabs my hand. He pulls out a light pink color nail polish and shakes it, making the little bead inside click up and down. I watch as he opens it and starts painting my nails carefully.

“You know why you’re here, right?” he asks.

“Oh… um… because…” I hesitate.

“Don’t sweat it, we know all about how your feral and your cameraman were getting it on,” Beatrice says, waving my words away as she curls against Randy’s back, looking over his shoulder at me.

“You do?” I ask.

Beatrice nods, and Randy chuckles. “There are benefits to being an omega in this world, sweetie. One of them is that people will tell you anything if you bat your eyes right.”

“What did they tell you, exactly?” I ask.

Randy leans forward and blows on my nails, looking up at me through his long lashes. His eyes are a deep green that reminds me of Arlo’s, and my skin tingles ever so slightly as he moves closer.

“That Derek caught them together,” Beatrice says, watching Randy move closer to me. “Must have been tough for you, seeing your feral like that. He’s supposed to be there for you. Though I’m not sure there’s anything else anyone can expect from a feral.”

“I was glad they were together,” I snap at her, pulling my hand away from Randy.

“We know, honey,” Randy says in a purring voice that wraps around me. He’s more captivating than I would have expected, and I’m realizing that being an omega can be a weapon if it’s used right. He reaches for my hand again, and I give it back to him.

“How do you know, exactly?”

“Because you’re an omega. You’re all about the love. Alphas don’t get that. They’re so possessive, always snarling and growling things like, ‘You’re mine,’” he shivers.

“Please, you love it,” Beatrice adds.

Randy laughs out loud. “I do love it, if I’m honest. But it’s not the way I think.” He leans back and kisses Beatrice gently on the cheek. “Enough teasing now, girl. Tell her what you heard.”

Beatrice leans forward, her eyes intent on mine. “I heard that Derek came by your townhouse. He was already planning to pick you up before any of that hooking-up shit came out. He used the two of them as an excuse to bring you here.”

“I don’t understand.”

“It was the fight,” Randy says. “That fight between the alphas, when you got in the middle? It went viral.”

“Oh,” I say in a small voice, remembering what Char said. Derek had known for days that he was going to bring me over to the mansion. It’s starting to make sense now.

“Yup, and after that, there was this worldwide campaign to bring you here. To make you a full cast member. The network, they’ve been taking crap for only picking the ‘prettiest’ omegas.” Randy rolls his eyes. “Like that means anything anyway. Everyone has their kind of beauty.”

Beatrice nods over his shoulder. “Just look at his alphas if you want proof he really believes that.”

“You’re gunning for the Rough Trade pack, right?” I ask.

Randy sighs. “Fighting Anne for them every day. So watch your back if you decide to throw your hat into that ring.”
