“I realized that talking about it helped me. I was embarrassed at first, but then when I admitted what happened to me and talked it through, I was able to let it go. I was able to start healing. It won’t go away, but it will make it less of what controls you, your thoughts, your emotions . . . your life,” Désirée states.

“I’ll get there one day . . .”

“You will.” Olivia shakes her head and then takes a sip of her wine.

“My engagement party is coming up. Do you think you’ll be able to attend?” Désirée finishes.

“Yes, I’ll be there.” I give her a smile, but I’m tense inside. I have to face all my family and friends. I don’t know if I’m ready for that.

“Good.” Désirée finishes her wine.

“We probably should get going. I’m sure Tristan’s tired from talking to us. I love you, Tris. Please don’t shut us out anymore.” Olivia states as she places her empty wine glass on the table.

“Exactly what she said. Love you.” Désirée gets up from the couch, and I stand with them.

They both give me a hug.

“I love you both too.” I walk them to the door and watch them walk outside to the car.

I shut the door and think about a new business I could get into. There are so many things that I could do. Maybe I’ll focus on housing. That seems like a good niche. Housing for those who are survivors of abuse. I go to my office and grab a notepad and pen and begin writing down everything that I would need to make this successful.

I get lost in the planning of my new business venture, and I believe I have what it takes to make it successful.
