Only three hundred and fifty more days, and you will be mine.

Chapter Fourteen: Alpha Ceremony

After helping Sawyer and his group arrive safely in the territory, I told my dad to send out a few warriors to help make sure the other packs were not ambushed as well. But they made it in without a problem, which made me think they were after the Quartzite pack.

But what would they want from them? Could it be because we have an alliance with them? I wondered, pacing my bedroom after dinner because sleep would not come to me. Amora slept in the next room, and I heard her soft breaths through the walls. Her scent calmed me and excited me at the same time.

They could have been after Amora. Sarge laid down in my head, his ears laid back flat.

But why? That had been another reason I hadn’t said she was ours. No one would realize she was our mate. I ran my hand down my face and then back through my hair. This whole thing was ridiculous. I mean, they had to know she was our mate. But who would have told? I’d only told Sawyer, mom, and dad. Unless someone had been eavesdropping on the conversation.

Dinner had been entertaining with all the packs under one roof. My father had invited most of the packs to my Alpha ceremony tomorrow. Many of them had brought their daughters to see if they were my mate, hoping to bridge an alliance with my pack and, therefore, Sawyer’s.

Amora had sat beside Danika as I’d sat beside my father and Sawyer. The other Alphas and their Lunas sat at different tables, talking, and laughing. This was how we should be—friends and alliances coming together to be as one. But once tomorrow ended, only some would still be alliances. Others would go on as if they had not broken bread with the wolves they now sat beside.

I needed to sleep, but all these questions and thoughts kept me awake. Closing my eyes, I rested my hands on the top of my head. I took a deep breath, trying to make myself tired. I had not even taken over the title of Alpha, and yet I couldn’t figure out why the Quartzite pack had been attacked.

“Nolen, can you not sleep?”

I turned quickly to face Amora. She stood in the doorway connecting her room to mine. My side of the door had not been locked, and I had no intention of doing so, because if she wanted to come to me, then she should be able to without having to go into the hall. Her cami and shorts hugged her body as if it was a second layer of skin.

“No. I’ve been thinking of things.” My eyes continued to wander over her body; her hair had just a little bit of mess to it. I wondered if she couldn’t sleep either, this was the second time she’d opened the door.

“Anything I can help with?” She placed her hands on her hips, swaying them to one side. Damn, just that slight movement of her body and she had me wanting her even more.

“No. Nothing to worry yourself about,” I assured, smiling over at her, excited that she had wandered into my room. I must have been making more noise than I thought.

“Are you worried about tomorrow when you take over the pack?” Amora stepped forward into my room, and when she reached me, she placed her hands on my bare chest. The fire and sparks her touch ignited ran through my body. She traced my tattoo with her hand along with her eyes. I tried to keep my breath and heart rate steady, but that was always futile when she was around.

“Not really. Why are you awake?” I grabbed her hand to stop her from tracing further down, her eyes anchoring themselves to mine. Those amber orbs stole my soul.

“I couldn’t sleep. My mind has been wandering for days.” She pressed her body flush against mine, her other hand slipped around to my back. “Nolen.”

“Amora, what are you doing?” I tightened my grip on her hand resting on my chest. Her heartbeat faster beneath her breast, I could smell her arousal. She’s experiencing the bond more. She wants us, Nolen. “I thought you wanted to wait for your mate.”

“I do, but there are days when I would give him up for you, and I don’t understand why.” Amora’s eyes searched and pleaded with mine to tell her the answer to her statement, an answer I could not reveal to her just yet. Even though I wanted to with all my heart.

I caressed her cheek with the tips of my fingers, her skin soft under my calloused fingers, she leaned her head into my hand, her eyes fluttering closed before opening again to gaze back into mine. “I don’t know how to answer you. Tell me what you are feeling, Amora.”

“At this moment?”

I nodded to her as I pulled her closer to me.

“I feel this lure, this attraction to you and only you. I can be around any other male and not experience this, but I come within yards of you, and I can’t help but think about your scent. Your hands touching me like they are now, your lips on mine.”

My heart raced in its cage as she turned from me. Anxiety drove me forward as I grabbed her hand, twisted her back around, and pulled her back to me. “Don’t be joking with me, Amora. Do you want me to kiss you?”

Amora nodded, wetting her lips with her tongue. I caged her body to me, one arm around her waist and then the other at the back of her head. I took her mouth with mine. My lips punished hers as her hands landed on my chest, making this all the more intense as we melded into one another’s embrace. At this moment, we were as one as we could be. She nipped my bottom lip, and I felt her tongue slip in against mine.I wish she was of age; she tastes so sweet, Sarge panted in my head as I continued to kiss Amora. She moaned against my lips, and it left a tingling sensation on them, making me groan into our kiss.

This was becoming more heated than I had wanted to go, I could feel myself hardening, and there was no possible way she didn’t notice it pressing into her stomach. I broke our kiss to try to douse the burning before it went too far. Amora sighed; her hand went to her lips, and she traced her fingertips over her swollen mouth. “That was amazing. Have you kissed many girls before?”

Chuckling, I cupped her face, keeping her eyes on me. I shook my head; her hands ran down my torso to my hips. Why don’t you kiss her again, Nolen?“You should know that answer, Amora.”

“Even when you lived at my pack?”

“No.”

Amora smiled, tightening her grip on my hips. Her eyes flirted with me as she gazed up at me. This woman could tell me to jump off a cliff and I would do it just to make her happy.
