“Go back and follow that trail. And hurry, we may require more strength.”

“Yes, Alpha!” He turned quickly, shifting, and ran to the east. I looked over to my brother, and he was mind linking someone.

“Danika and Amora, start going through the pack and helping the she-wolves and pups and take them to the safe house. Only let them get what they can carry. No extra.”

Danika nodded and started down the steps. I wanted to be where the fighting was, not this. “Sawyer, please let me fight. I can protect you just as well as most of these males can!”

“Amora, that’s why I need you with the she-wolves and pups. They are our future; please do this for me. I need you at the safe house with Danika. We haven’t told many people, but she is carrying your niece or nephew. I need to be sure she is safe.”

Glancing over to Danika, I could tell her scent had a subtle change to it. Turning back to Sawyer, I nodded and sprinted off to catch up with her.

Having caught back up with Danika, we made our way to the first house. She knocked on the door, and the she-wolf came to the entryway. “Bring what you can carry and head to the packhouse. We will be back after we get the other, she-wolves that are pregnant and have pups along with the older wolves.”

“Yes, Luna.”

We continued on to each house, telling them the same thing. When we returned to the packhouse, all the she-wolves and the pups were waiting on us. Motioning for them to follow, we helped the older wolves in first and then the heavily pregnant ones.

After the last pup was safely inside, I turned to Danika, grabbing hold of her shoulders to get her to look at me. “Go on, Danika, you as well. You need to be protected.”

“I will be fine up here.” She turned from me, shaking her head.

“Danika, I understand you will, but Sawyer and the pack will not. The females down in that hole need their Luna with them to protect them if they get past me.” I took hold of her arms, making her look at me again. “Please go down there and help me protect you and them.”

“Okay. But if you need me, I will come up.”

“I need you down there.” I opened the door to the safe house and made sure she made her way down, closing the door behind her and shoving the locks bolt into place. Covering the entrance with leaves and branches, I sat watching the tree line even though the enemy shouldn’t be here for another day.

Nolen, where are you! We need you. I need you.

I shifted into my wolf later that afternoon. Sawyer had been running a mantra of orders in everyone’s heads. He was starting to make my head hurt, but he was doing what any other alpha would do.

Padding through the underbrush, I kept a watch on the safe house that had been built underground to make it harder for outsiders to find us.

You know, you didn’t tell me your name.

You never asked. It’s Kulai. Which means Moonflower.

That’s a beautiful name.

Kulai’s happiness flooded through the both of us as we continued on our path. Every once in a while, I would let Sawyer know all was clear. I was about to mind link him that everything was still okay when a noise caught my attention.

The noise came again to my left, and glancing over, I saw them. Stalking through the clearing right on top of the safe house. Crouching in the bushes, someone kept pushing their mind against mine. It had to be Danika. Staying close to the ground, I opened up and pushed into Sawyer’s and Danika’s minds. Dolostone came early. They are making their way to the inner pack. They have passed the safe house. The females and pups are safe.

Stay where you are, Amora. Keep them safe. Don’t do anything stupid to get yourself killed!

After all the enemy wolves passed, I crawled out of my hiding place. Making my way to the middle of the clearing, a snarl sounded from my side, and my heart began to race. I glanced over at the wolf as it lunged at me.

Nolen

Standing there on four paws, I stared at this magical woman who knew my name as if she had known me all my life. She smiled at me before she started to stroll over to a tree stump, her dress flowing behind her, and sat down. The woman motioned for me to come to her.

Going forward as Sarge, we slowly made our way up to her. She sat on the stump, smiling at us, and once we were close to her, I felt myself shifting back to my human form. Her voice came out light and airy. “Now, that’s better, isn’t it?”

I looked over my body, realizing she had clothed me. Kneeling down on my knees, I bowed to this woman in the dewy grass. She had to be the Moon Goddess, the one the others were talking about. A sense of calm surrounded me when her hand touched my shoulder.

Glancing up to her beautiful face, the brightest grey eyes stared down at me. She motioned for me to stand. I stood before her, waiting for her to say something to me. She just sat there giving me curious glances, tilting her head like a wolf would.

Deciding that I would start the conversation, I took one more step closer. “I don’t know what to say.”
