Damn the man to hell. How dare he ask her to keep such a secret? But his stare remained fixed on her face, drilling into her brain, affecting her body, affecting her ability to think clearly.

She huffed out a breath. This didn’t feel right, but she’d agree. For now.

“Fine, I won’t tell anyone what I saw here today. On one condition.”

“What?” he asked warily. She could tell how much he hated the fact that she’d seen him in a moment of weakness.

“That you tell me what’s going on with you. I need to know everything.”

He nodded once, then pulled himself up the wall until he was standing. She picked up his hat and handed it to him, watching him like a hawk in case the dizziness came back. “As long as you promise not to tell anyone else.”

“I promise,” she agreed.

“You drive a hard bargain.”

She sighed and uncrossed her fingers behind her back, making a silent mental note that if this happened again, she would be telling Steve. Mack was a danger to himself and to the station if he couldn’t control whatever was happening to him.
