“Well, it certainly isn’t right now,” Terry said with a sigh. He turned to Reinhardt. “I’ve asked Craig to show you to your room. You’ll have one to yourself. No one else is in Jefferson except the agents in BAU 4. If you need anything to make yourself more comfortable, please let us know.”

“I know what the rooms are like in Jefferson,” Reinhardt said. “Not much chance of being comfortable.”

Logan was getting tired of his attitude. “You do realize all this is being done to protect you, right? I’m not sure you understand how much danger you might be in.”

Reinhardt glared at Logan. “I was catching dangerous criminals and tracking down terrorists when you were still in high school. I am more than able to take care of myself. I don’t need this place, and I don’t need you. I’ll do as Terry asks—for now. But if at any point I should decide to leave, I will not argue with anyone about it. And if I want to use my own phone, I will.”

His eyes flashed with anger. “On your best day, you haven’t done the things I have. I was in my twenties when I worked with John Davis and Evan Bayne. I helped to develop the BAU. You have a job because of me. I will not be talked down to or treated with anything but respect. I hope I’ve made myself clear.”

He gestured at Craig. “You may show me to my room now.” Without another word, he stomped out, the unfortunate Craig hurrying after him.

When the door closed behind them, Terry grunted. “I’m about this close to telling him to go it on his own.”

“I feel a little sorry for him,” Logan said.

“You’re a better man than me,” Terry mumbled.

“And me,” Gorman added.

“I hope your people respond to these phones better than Reinhardt did,” Terry said to Logan. “I know this is difficult, but we’re trying to do everything we can to protect you.”

“I know that. And they do too. Anything else?”

“Yes, there is,” Terry said. “Now that Reinhardt’s gone, I need to talk to you about something. It won’t take long, but it’s important.”
