“You know I have to answer this. I’ll be there as soon as I can. I promise.”

Although his wife was used to the pressures of his job, he understood that she needed him to be available to her. Sighing, he answered the call.

“Hi, Boss,” Monty said. “Todd just called. They’ve found a Columbus Jones Junior. Died almost eighteen years ago. Had a son.Columbus Jones the third. But they also found Columbus Jones Senior. Died about twelve years ago. Left everything he owned to his grandson. It’s a huge mansion out in the boonies, about ten miles from here.”

“That’s where they are,” Jeff said, excitement bubbling up inside him. “Are they sending teams out there?”

“Yes. SWAT and HRT. Hopefully, we’ll have them soon. Oh, and the task force found something else. Someone bought a couple of the rides and some booths from Magic Land sometime after it closed down for good.”

“And the buyer?”

“Columbus Jones the third.”

“I’m surprised he used his real name.”

“Probably had to since the purchase was expensive. Besides, he hadn’t kidnapped anyone yet.”

“So they’re on their way now?”

“Yeah. I’ll keep you posted as I hear from Todd. Williams was ready to send him and Bethany home, but they asked to stay. Then she told them to make sure you know she’ll contact you directly as soon as the teams secure all the victims and Alex.”

“She’s aware Todd is calling you and you’re calling me, then.”

“Yeah. She’s pretty sharp, and she knows how much this operation means to us.”

“Okay. Thanks. I’m going to call Logan.”

“Should you wait until they know something for sure?”

“No. I want him to be prepared for whatever happens. I owe him that.”

“Okay. I’m almost to the hospital. You’ll call him now?”

Jeff looked at Lisa staring at him from across the room. He sighed. “Yeah. Pray for me. My wife is giving me the evil eye. Dinner’s ready.”

“I can tell him what’s going on.”

“No. It needs to come from me. Talk to you soon.” He disconnected the call and met Lisa’s gaze. “They may have found them. We could have Alex back in the next hour or so, and I need to let Logan know.”

She shook her head. “I’ll put the roast back in the oven. It’ll keep for a while.” Then she smiled before heading back to the dining room.

Jeff was beginning to realize how blessed he really was. Just wait until he offered to pray over their meal. Maybe this interruption would be forgotten. Lisa had been praying for his salvation for years. The desire of her heart was to have a godly husband. Tonight she would finally see the result of those prayers.
