Irolled off of Jade and went into the bathroom to get a warm washcloth. I came back and she had tears down her face.
“What’s wrong, babe?” I cleaned between her legs quickly and then got back into bed to gather her into my arms. “Why are you crying?”
She shook her head. “These are good tears, Nate. I didn’t think I’d ever have another chance with you. I don’t really regret leaving, but I regret leaving you. Does that make sense?”
I rubbed her arm. “It does. I think we both needed it honestly. We needed the break to know that we really belong together.” I lifted her chin with my finger. “I love you so much, Jade.”
“I love you, too, Nate. I always have and I always will.” She sighed and threw a leg over mine. “I wish Dad was alive so he could see us back together. He didn’t say it much, but I knew he wanted me with you.”
“I bet he knows. He was a smart guy. When you first left and I would see him around town, he’d tell me to be patient. He said you’d come back to me someday. I’m only sorry his death was the reason you were here.”
She laughed. “Of course he would say that to you. Mom would rag on me to get back together with you and Dad would say things once in a while, but he didn’t over do it. He was a smart man. I miss him.”
“I know.” I rubbed her arm. “Let’s talk about something happier.” She jumped in my arms when another clap of thunder shook the cabin. “It’s really storming out there.”
“Yeah it is. What do you want to talk about? How you want to fuck me again? Maybe knock me up?”Jade grinned at me and my cock twitched. God, I’d love to see her belly swollen with my baby.
“Those are good things. I was going to ask how soon I could get you moved into here. And make your last name match mine.”
Jade rolled her eyes. “Sorry, you’re going to have to do a better proposal than that, mister. But I could probably move in here soon. I’ll have to see how Mom is doing, but I think she’ll be so thrilled we’re back together, she will help me pack. It will be a nice distraction for her.”
“Good.” I flipped her over onto her back and teased her clit with my finger. “Now what was this about knocking you up?”
It stormed all night but we didn’t care because we were up all night making love. I had a lot of time to make up for now that Jade was back in my life and back in bed.
When we woke the next morning, Jade sat up in bed. “Shit. Mom is probably worried about where I am. I never even thought about it.” She flew out of bed with no clothes on. “Where’s the phone?”
I reached out for her and pulled her back to the bed. “Don’t worry, babe. I let my boss know so he could let your mom know when you were in the shower last night. She knows where you are.”
“Good.” She paused and threw her hands up. “Great. She knows I’m here and now she’ll grill me and ask a billion questions.”
“Stop talking.” I covered her mouth with mine and kissed her until she stopped protesting and she no longer thought about her mom.
We made love again and then showered together. If this was a preview of what life would be like with Jade, I couldn’t be happier.
She got dressed in her clothes I’d dried for her and my boss picked us up to take us back to her car and my truck. We rode in silence, but she firmly held my hand in her lap. Our town was small and everyone knew what had happened between us all those years ago. We would be the topic of gossip for some time now that we were back together.
It didn’t matter. All that mattered was that Jade loved me and we were going to spend the rest of our lives together.
EPILOGUE ~ JADE
ONE YEAR LATER
Today was my wedding day.
And it was perfect.
Well, almost perfect. The only thing to make it perfect would be if Dad was here to walk me down the aisle.
Mom and I had our moment about that earlier in the morning before we got ready, but promised to only think happy thoughts the rest of the day. He would hate it if this day was ruined by tears.
I looked down and rubbed my belly. I was eight and a half months pregnant. That was not how I envisioned my wedding day either and it had really limited my dress choices, but Nate was so dang excited, I couldn’t help but be thrilled along with him.
He moved me into his cabin the next day after talking to Mom. She said she’d be sad but wanted me to be happy and knew Dad would want the same.
I put my feminine touch on the place and after two weeks, Nate took me out on a date where he got down on one knee and asked me to marry him. He confessed he’d had the ring since high school graduation and couldn’t bring himself to get rid of it.
